Comments Thread For: Mares Would Not Rule Out a First Defense With Terrazas

Last Saturday in El Paso, Guadalajara's Abner Mares (24-0-1 13 KOs) captured the vacant WBC super bantamweight title with a dominating twelve round unanimous decision over Puerto Rican veteran Eric Morel. While Mares wants to secure a unification with Nonito Donaire (28-0-1 18 KOs) - the WBC's silver champion at super bantamweight, Victor "El Vikingo" Terrazas (33-2-1, 19KOs), wants his earned opportunity to fight for the full championship.

Good fight. When Mijares and Terrazas were mentioned for Donaire, I was hoping it would be Terrazas. At least he beat Montiel, so it's a solid/alright defense at this moment if it happens.

i think its the right thing to do since terrazas and the number ranked guy were not given the opprtunity to fight for the vacant title, they should have a shot t mares next then definitely against donaire or moreno

That would be a real quality fight at 122.

Gotta appreciate fighters like Abner who really do want to fight the best possible opponent that his promoter can put in front of him. I'm just concerned about him burning out. The pace he's been on along with the level of opponents, pressure of the tourney and consecutive long drag out 12rd fights Will take a toll.
