You gotta kind of like that about Buddy though. He really cares about his fighters and their life after the fight. This was a good stoppage. Macklin had nothing left. Martinez wasn't even out of breath, no need to throw him to the wolves. It might not have seemed, but Macklin took a lot of damage throughout the fight and you could see that it wasn't simply fatigue...he was getting beaten up and Martinez was landing too frequently. There was a moment I think in the 11th that Macklin attempted to hit Sergio and Sergio literally walked into it, didnt blink, and just casually walked to the side. He knew it, buddy knew, it was a matter of time.

I think Macklin has shown himself to be a good fighter, capable of competing at the higher levels of the sport. He arguably beat Felix Sturm, and gave Martinez a decent fight for the first half.

Brain damage is a very serious issue in boxing and other sports. It's better to stop a fight too early than too late. But this one was right on the money. Macklin was fading in the second half of the fight, but Sergio was as fresh as ever. Macklin had no chance at turning the tide in the last round, and Sergio was well ahead on two scorecards after the two knockdowns.
