Comments Thread For: Amir Khan, Roach Have a Plan For Peterson's Attacks

I thought Khan won the first fight but it was very close.
Khan has to keep Peterson at the end of his stiff jabs. His jab is better than his ring movement. Once Peterson works his way in, he's golden. I don't think Khan has the mentality for in-fighting, at least not for sustained periods.
Peterson wins by taking it to Khan from the get go. Smother Khan and don't give him the range to pot shot. He's got to shorten his punches too. Sloppy arm swings give Khan opportunities to counter against a slower opponent.

What exactly is Freddie going to be ready to deal with and have a plan for? Khan tried being offensive, counterpunching, being defensive, trading shots and fighting inside and boxing from the outside and none of it worked. So what else is he going to do this time exactly? Rub magic beans? Freddie is a good trainer no doubt but the problem had nothing to do with Khan's strategy, the problem is in Khan's head. He fights with an amateur points style almost, he lunges with his punches and does that 2-3 combo punch shoeshine stuff. He just cannot handle constant pressure, he gets on his bicycle, like he against Maidana and Peterson. If you back Khan up, he is in trouble, plain and simple. Khan makes no adjustments whatsoever for who he is fighting, he fights one way, that is it. That is what differentiates great fighters from "elite" fighters. If Khan cannot back Peterson up or slow him down, he loses again basically. Luckily for Khan, Peterson is not a puncher or he would have been stopped.
