They're trying to sign him for 5 more years as a condition to have this fight. Gamboa has no problem working with Top Rank but only promoting a few fights at a time, preferably only one. He doesn't want to be their slave for 5 years. He wants to fight Rios, but only Rios. With the current contract, if Gamboa fights Rios, he has to sign with Top Rank for 5 years and that's the contract issue he's talking about. I know this straight from Gamboa's close entourage.
Thanks for providing that information, bro. Yuri's really created a shitstorm with his decision to skip the press conferences. He needs express himself fully and address all the speculation that's going on. There's a lot of talk, and no one really knows what they're talking about. Personally, I'm trying to reserve my opinion for whenever the smoke clears....

Gamboa is making Gamboa look bad no one else. People can blame Arum Top Rank cuz' that's the easy thing to do. But, this is all on Gamboa fuck him.

Yes but Vegas is closer to where more Mexicans live than Cubans. Put a Mexican fight in Miami and it wont do big...Put a Cuban where Mexicans live and that wont do big. It's not like when Duran and Chavez was fighting no matter where they went it would attract huge crowds.

Gamboa AGREED to this fight. This fight has been publicized for many weeks now. Gamboa talked about the fight, said he looked forward to the fight and could have at least showed up to explain himself!!! He KNEW there would be promoting involved.

Wasn't it just announced in a BoxingScene article this morning that Gamboa had recently signed a new 2 year contract with Top Rank and Oner?? Refardless of whether it's true or not what are you talking about with your Haye inspired"slave contract" libel. How easy it is to spread rumours around on the internet with no consequences.

I think HBO who's part of the current Rios/Gamboa promotion will also have serious doubts about offering him future fights if and when he's over his legal troubles. Reneging on a contracted fight is not the way you do business. It's going to come back and bite him in the ass!
The most logical and best comment so far.

About as easy as it is to say that Gamboa is afraid, hes ducking, and that his contract dispute is a money issue.
