So I guess fighters are going to be aiming for the WBA and WBO belts then ?

This should be the boxing standard.

A lot of fighters need to change classes. The Chavez fight was an embarrassment to the term "weight class". I'm not just singling him out as there are plenty of others as well. With 17 weight classes there is no reason guys should coming in 20lbs over the division limit come fight time.

Nobody is going to have change classes. People rehydrating 10% of their bodyweight is extremely rare. It's way too much leeway. It's a 9:30 am same day weigh in giving the fighter a half day rehydrate some more. For middleweight, it lets you hydrate an extra 16 pounds. This is tailor made for Chavez. Chavez will have an extra 12 hours to hydrate just four more pounds. Easy. If it was the 10 pound IBF rule on the other hand, I doubt Chavez would be able to do it.

This rule is just a smokescreen. It's useless.

Outing on that much weight that fast will make guys sluggish and sap their stamina. I'd expect to see someone like Chavez move up within 2 or 3 fights.

A move in the right direction but there is a problem with it , 9.30 am is to far away from fight time , they can gain 10 pds or more in that last 12 hours , and it opens the door for blood doping where they pull a liter of blood out out and put it back after the weigh-in .

This is actually a good point I hadn't considered. Its a good starting point though and better than the current format.
