I was fascinated catching some of Ali's older fights as a kid. Didn't get hooked until Hagler vs Hearns. Been a major fan ever since.

I was a huge fan of mma and only casually watched boxing, but a couple of years ago I started watching boxing a bit more and the more I watched it the more I realised how terrible the striking in mma is.

I still like mma, but I find that boxing has much more strategy and depth to it, as Mayweather said, "mma is checkers, boxing is chess". I also find that a good boxing fight has more of an ebb and flow to it than mma, too often in mma you get guys lay n' praying the entire fight.

But I like both sports, and I wish that boxing had the same promotional set up as mma so that there'd never be these Bowe Lewis, Pacquiao Mayweather, Tyson Holyfield, Hopkins Jones II situations.

My dad started watching UFC/MMA in 1993.

He got me watching it when I was 4 years old, then I introduced myself to boxing during a party.

          The rest is history.

So there were the cliques of the one school, the cliques of the other and me standing some where in the middle with my goofy hair cut. I got through the 1st semester just laying low and planned to do the same through this semester, then came the 1st day of 4th hour English class.

I enter the class room to the familiar feeling of knowing nobody, nothing but faces of people that I knew nothing about. I head up the 1st isle of desks. There was a goofy looking kid with braces looking through his text book so I made my way to the desk behind him. As I started to place my books on the desk the kid turns around telling me that I can't sit there, I chuckle and sit down. He gets a scowl on his face and angrily turns back around.

The teacher begins his attendance checks by calling out names. The kid turns around and says I'll kick your ass, I'm a boxer. I'll pay your membership fee and I'll kick your ass. The rest is Rockin' history..........Rockin'
            haha Great story.

In the past, I used to play a lot of football (soccer). Wasn't really that good. But I never gave. I used to play it non stop. Few years later, when I was 15, I became very good.

A year ago, I went with a friend of mine to the boxing gym. I had never seen anything like it. The place reeked of sweat, and blood. But yet I was curious. I started going there casually, coaches told me "don't bother, if you come in once or twice a week", I quit.

As I was leaving I read the banner at the top of the gym wall 'Quitter never win, and winners never quit'.

Went on with my life, for about 6 months. In that time I couldn't stop thinking about boxing, and that something was missing from my life.

I decided to rejoin the gym again, with a new mindset. 'No matter what happens you gotta brave through it'. Although, it's a different sport from football (soccer). Totally different.
If you work hard at it, you will reap the rewards.

            lol There's my soppy story.

All in all, I love the deep history behind boxing, and the different types of fighters, all contributing to the sport in their own way.

I used to always go with my Dad when he used to go round his friends house when a big Tyson fight was on. I wasn't that old at the time but I just remember seeing this guy completely rip apart his opponents inside a few rounds & I was like dam.

But I never really followed up on that interest & football (soccer for the Yanks) took over.

I got interested again when Nazeem came on the scene but once again when he left I kind of lost interest again.

But I've started following it properly after, oddly enough, seeing Khan at the Olympics & the first season of The Contender. Since then I've been hooked & whilst I don't know as much in terms of history & that like some of the posters on here, I've tried to learn as much as possible.

Definitely has become my favourite sport.

During my childhood, the Trinidad fights meant a reunion in my family. I had some uncles and members of the family that only i would see when Tito was fighting.. But since the Hopkins fight.. there was a big hole and i didnt even cared about boxing until 2006 when i saw Cotto spanking Paulie. Since that 2006 summer boxing has been a priority in my life.

Chiquita Gonzales- Micheal Carbahal. That fight turned me from just a young spectator to avid boxing fan. For those who never saw that fight, I urge you to watch it. It's really an atg fight.
