Comments Thread For: Mayweather vs Cotto Possibly For The WBC Diamond Title

According to WBC President Jose Sulaiman, his organization is currently speaking with Golden Boy Promotions regarding the possibility of having the "Diamond Title" at stake on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - when Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) challenges Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30KOs) for the WBA's junior middleweight title. Two of the boxers to claim the WBC's "Diamond Title" include Manny Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez. Mayweather has previously held the WBC's full title at 154, which he captured in 2007, also on May 5th at the MGM Grand, with a twelve round split decision over Oscar De La Hoya.

i'm still not sure what the WBC Diamond belt even means ...
I know it's supposed to have real gold and diamonds

but is it like the WBA's "super" belt? If not mistaking Martinez just dropped his Diamond belt

They should refuse to fight for this joke belt and treat it with the disdain it deserves. WBC just trying to muscle in a sanctioning fee.

diamond title is just a honorary title. it has no practical value, l ie. enforce mandatory fights and stuff like that. hence why martinez dropped it.
it's NOT an equivalent of WBA super titles.

not like it wasn't the plan all along? WBC refused to strip floyd after the court case, and now that the fight won't be for their ww title they are trying to sell their bull**** 154 belt.....
