Pac-Floyd. Pac-TBA Pac is going to get the bigger split and guarantee. That's a given. And, I thought the gurantee of both Pac-TBA put together would equal Floyd guarantee.

It's simple: A new excuse by Arum to avoid the fight. There were no discussions of a need for investors to secure Mayweather's guarantee when they negotiated two years ago. And Mayweather has done quite nicely getting his guarantee (and then some) in his previous bouts.

From what I've read and understand, the cable/satellite networks (Time Warner, Direct TV, etc) take a bit over 1/2 the revenue from PPV. Then HBO or Showtime takes their distribution fee, not sure what it amounts to but I would imagine it would be in the neighborhood of 10-15%. The rest goes to the promoters.

With guarantees, it's solely up to the promoter to come up with that money, that way there's absolutely no risk to the fighter (this is the biggest reason fighters hire promoters like Arum). So no matter what happens- if there's a natural disaster or the PPV completely tanks, Manny will bank at least his $20 mil guarantee or whatever amount he's contractually promised by Top Rank. Floyd's situation is different in that he doesn't have a contractual agreement with any promoter so it's on Mayweather Promotions/Al Haymon to come up with his guaranteed purses.

On top of that, they are responsible for all costs involved with the promotion (advertising, commercials, billboards, press conferences, etc). So there's a ton of risk involved because if the event flops, their bottom line will be affected.

Example- for the Ortiz fight, Floyd had to come up with a $25 mil guarantee for himself, a $2.5 million guarantee for Ortiz, about $2 million to Golden Boy for their promotional fee, and about another $10 million for promotions. So basically He had to come up with around $40 mil upfront before any contracts were even signed.

The benefit of Floyd's deal structure is that he keeps most of the profits once all is said and done, but the obvious possible setback is that he absorbs all the financial risk.

So GBP claimed Floyd-Ortiz brought in 1.25 mil buys and $78 million in revenue. That means the spoils were distributed as such:

Distributors (Direct TV, Time Warner): $40 million
            HBO: $7.8 mil-$11.7 mil
            Promoter (Floyd): $26-$30

The problem with this for Floyd is that in order for him to make more than his guarantee, the fight had to do 1.4-1.5 million. The fight doing 1.25 mil means he brought back only a little more than his guarantee, which he (Haymon) most likely borrowed from other sources that wanted that money back with interest. But Floyd does get a portion of the gate, concessions, etc so he makes bank regardless. But purely from a PPV revenue standpoint, he's taking a big gamble every time out.

Now it gets complicated with Pac-Floyd because Arum is contractually obligate to get Manny his guarantee, but obviously not for Floyd... and why would he if he (Arum) is not going to get anything back from Floyd's end. If Arum can get investors to put up $50 mil for Manny's end, then Floyd (Haymon) would have to come up with amount as well if they're going to split the pot 50/50. But if Floyd is willing to let Bob be the sole promoter on the event and possibly pay him a fee like he does GBP and a back-end deal on the PPV revenue, then Uncle Bob would be more than happy to find Floyd a pot of gold. But Floyd is stuck on the idea of being his own boss, etc so it'd be on him to find a purse source. But the one key is the utter uselessness of GBP in the whole equation. Them coming up with Floyd's guarantee wouldn't even make sense for them since they don't get any % points on Floyd's earnings, so unless they draw up a one fight contract where they get more than their usual fee/back end... then they have absolutely nothing to gain by negotiating and cultivating $ on behalf of Floyd.

Anyway, on top of the $50 mil guarantees for the fighters, there'd be about $15-20 mil in promotions, and if Arum insists on the temporary stadium that would run them another $7 mil (if his estimate is correct). So yeah, it'd be about $120-130 million that needed to be raised before contracts are drawn up.

This fight will never happen at all. This is the best time. I love Manny but this will hurt his credibility and that is why he will never be the president of the Philippines. He's got skills but lack knowledge. The Pinoys like me will see him as a puppet and you cannot have a puppet president nor governor.I hope Manny will open his eyes coz this fight might never get this kind of publicity again! Arum is a parasite.

I'd love to know when Floyd Mayweather asked Bob Arum to guarantee his purse. Any one of you f*gs wanna give it a shot?

Who said he asked him to?

But both Atlas and Arum have points about the economic viability of the fight. Unless both guys lower their financial demands (ie, going back to $25 mil guaranteed a piece instead of $50), then they'll need to hold the fight in a massive stadium and/or hike the price of the PPV to make a profit. But it's pretty much a guarantee that the fight will not be the usual $60-$70, wouldn't be surprised if it's hiked up by at least $10.

Plus the more they put it off, the less luster and public demand the match up has.

What 'demands' are you talking about exactly?
