Heavyweight contender James Toney, 69-4-2, 43 KOs, 1 NC, has scrapped his upcoming bout with Rob Calloway, which was set to air live on The Best Damn Sports Show Period on December 15. According to his promoter Dan Goosen, the fight was canceled in favor of the prospect of facing newly crowned WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, 41-5-1, 33 KOs, sometime in early 2006. Rahman's future will be decided by the WBC as they decide who he shall face next. Oleg Maskaev, who recently won the number one position in the WBC, Toney, and Wladimir Klitschko are candidates for Rahman's first defense. The BDSSP telecast will now feature the rematch between WBA lightweight champ Juan Diaz and former champ Lavka Sim, and possibly Olympic Gold Medalist Andre Ward.
HOORAH!!!!
I guess if Rahman wants to be a champ his only hope is to go for Maskaev.
As for now, champ my a$$! a champ without a single title defence!
Just a question, what if Tarver moves up to heavyweight, you think Tarver will be able to beat Toney?
I don't think anyone is smart enough to beat Toney right now. His experience gives him an edge over virtually every fighter today of all weights and sizes.
I kind of wish Rahman had fought Maskaev first to erase that terrible disaster because Toney is going to beat Rahman. However, if there is one heavyweight that can beat Toney, it is definitely Hasim Rahman.
