Comments Thread For: Rubio Pounds Vanda In Five Rounds, Eyes Chavez Jr. Next

I saw the fight a few moments ago and Rubio gave Vanda a bad beating, he was throwing several hard power shots and rocked Vanda all night long. Just because Vanda has a reasonably good chin he wasn't KOd earlier in the fight.
About the weight Rubio said in Twitter that the fight was supposedly at 162 and that he wasn't above the weight, but maybe they gave him the wrong information and that's why he was 1 1/2 pound heavier than the 160 limit, but anyway he'll easily make the weight for the Jr fight. He was very solid, he was also caught by some shots by Vanda and absorbed them pretty good and he was in good shape throwing some really really hard bombs.
I've got Veneno over Jr by KO in 9 or 10. Jr tends to gas out in the later rounds of the fight and hasn't faced a puncher like Veneno. Sure, Rubio isn't a great technical boxer but he has a damn good chin, some great punching power and has great stamina so IMO he has a good chance of beating Jr.

Matt Vanda is a common opponent to Chavez Jr. and Rubio. Back in '08 Chavez won a highly contested SD against Vanda and then went on to rematch him 4 months later scoring a UD. Rubio handled Vanda quite easily winning most of the rounds, controlling the pace and grinding out the stoppage.
However, JCC Jr. has improved significantly since those fights and I'm sure he'd handle Vanda more easily now.
