I dont think Cotto fought beautifully at all. I thought he made many mistakes and had a very bad strategy. Granted, im glad he won, and did right by targeting the eye, but there were many things he did that i felt were wrong.
1. He moved way too much. Moving is key against Margs, but not straight back like he was. Not enough side stepping or tying up. He exerted way too much energy.
2. Did not mix it up inside enough. Imo, he wouldve knocked out margs earlier if he stayed in and landed more uppercuts and hooks instead of just backing up after one combo.
3. Not enough jabbing. He started off well, then stopped. He didnt utilize it well enough to setup combos.
4. Not enough body punching. He hardly threw any. He needed to land them in order to slow down margs pressure.
This being said, he used great tactics like tying up margs and pushing him off in order to not give him leverage, that was brilliant. Also, his accuracy in hitting the eye was on point. Every left hook that landed found its target right on the swollen eye. Cotto could have done much better but he still did what was necessary and stopped Margs like i predicted. Vengeance is sweet.
On a sidenote, Cotto should have not left Steward. Im not too sure about this Diaz trainer, he didn't have much direction to give Cotto in between rounds.
