If he wants to move up the ranks he needs to fight better fighters; not just those above him on the p4p list. Neither Barker nor Dzinziruk helped him improve his stateside status.

If Floyd agrees to fight him, fine but to constantly chase these smaller fighters when he's not even facing quality opposition in his own weight class is pathetic.
I'll use the logic that I heard used when Mayweather fought Marquez at welterweight (despite having fought almost his entire career at 126 and having never fought above 135 at that juncture): Mayweather used to fight at 130 so it isn't that big a deal.

The majority of Martinez's fights have been at 147--look it up. Martinez has said he'd come down to 150 for this fight. Floyd fought Oscar at 154. It isn't like Martinez is trying to make this fight to pick on the smaller guy--he's trying to make it to make the most money. Martinez is 5'10". Floyd is 5'8". Pacquiao is 5'6.5". There difference between Martinez/Floyd is only marginally bigger than that between Floyd/Pacquiao. It is just as fair for Floyd to fight Martinez as it is (reversed) for him to fight Pacquiao.

Pacquiao will not fight Martinez. Martinez's own promotor went on record as saying Pacquiao wasn't really an option, he's just too small. I tend to agree.

I"d love to see Mayweather fight Martinez. Martinez will likely end Mayweather's career. That's why I find talk of this fight unbelievable. Martinez would do anything to make it happen, but it is way too risky for Floyd. Hence, we'll see Floyd fight a smaller man like Bradley or Amir Khan. He's always been a ***** when it comes to scheduling. See Floyd isn't a moron--he won't take risky fights. He's going to have a zero at the end of his career that will be as worthless as Joe Calzaghe's or Sven Ottke's. Just like Calzaghe, his best wins will come against shot and shopworn former champions (de la hoya, mosley v. jones, jr., bernard). The only difference is at least Calzaghe was about the same age as the washed up fighters he beat. Floyd was still in his prime and was picking on washed up fighters.

Hopkins used to do the same with De La Hoya when he was at 147 and he used to called out Tito Trinidad, another career welterweight. all that when Hopkins was middleweight king. boxers just want pay days and will go where the money is.

Martinez can move up but what kind of money is at 168?? it sure aint Ward or Froch, they have fans but Martinez gets paid more to fight on HBO. he could make money with Bute but nobody will fight Bute in Canada, did you see the 1st Andrade fight?

Martinez is just chasing that big pay day, just like Hopkins did.

I thought Pac was a ducker, yet he's fighting his nemenis maybe for a 4th time. What's the problem?

A 4th close fight won't change nothing dude...

Saturday Floyd lost more than Manny.

Manny had, again, for the third time a close, controversial fight against the lil gansta from mexico. Nothing new in the story...
Pacquiao's legacy is still the same.

I don't think Floyd is happy with what happened.

Because, a win against Manny now that he has been exposed as the fighter he always was by a lightweight won't mean ****, the PPV won't be the same.

Floyd didn't really want to fight Manny and it was a mistake.

Sure he did and sure it is.......

            Top three pound-for-pound fighters

            1. FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR.
            Welterweight titlist
            Record: 42-0, 26 KOs
            Age: 34

            Floyd Mayweather

            Mayweather

Hits: Even after 16 months out of the ring following his near shutout of Shane Mosley in May 2010, Mayweather returned to action on Sept. 17 and showed not the slightest bit of rust. Still fast and possessing great defense and underrated power, Mayweather knocked out Victor Ortiz (albeit in controversial fashion) in the fourth round to reclaim one of the titles he had previously given up. Now, instead of disappearing on another long layoff, Mayweather has announced plans to return on May 5, ideally against Manny Pacquiao -- if Pacquiao's people will come to the bargaining table.

Misses: It's great that Mayweather seems to be showing real interest in finally facing Pacquiao, but since Pacquiao just fought, how about giving him a little bit of time to unwind before insisting on a negotiation right now? Where was that kind of urgency at any point in the past few years?
            2. MANNY PACQUIAO
            Welterweight titlist
            Record: 54-3-2, 38 KOs
            Age: 32

            Manny Pacquiao

            Pacquiao

Hits: Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, who had already produced two memorable battles in featherweight and junior lightweight title bouts, met for the third time Nov. 12 and gave fight fans a worthy trilogy with another outstanding and highly competitive fight. With Pacquiao's victory, the path is wide open for him to at long last meet Mayweather in the fight the world wants to see.

Misses: Pacquiao, who was a massive favorite to beat Marquez because they were fighting at welterweight, looked as vulnerable as he has in a long time. Although he eked out a majority decision, few would have quarreled had Marquez gotten the win or had the fight been ruled a draw. Pacquiao looked confused at times and lacked snap on his punches in a less-than-stellar outing. It just wasn't the kind of performance we have come to expect from Pacquiao, especially in light of the fact that Marquez had been wiped out by Mayweather in 2009 in his only other welterweight fight.Although a fourth fight with Marquez is certainly warranted at some point, it absolutely should not be next, which is what Top Rank's Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, is talking about pursuing. Mayweather should be next, and it's going to have to be up to Pacquiao to stand up to Arum and tell him to make a deal. Period.
            3. SERGIO MARTINEZ
            Middleweight champion
            Record: 48-2-2, 27 KOs
            Age: 36

            Sergio Martinez

            Martinez

Hits: If there is a silver lining to the apparent implosion of Pacquiao-Mayweather negotiations before they have even begun, it is that Martinez, the 2010 fighter of the year, might be an attractive opponent for Mayweather, who plans to fight May 5. Martinez has said repeatedly he would drop down in weight for the opportunity to face Mayweather or Pacquiao. If Pacquiao is going to fight Marquez for a fourth time, Mayweather could make a big statement by taking on Martinez near 150 pounds.

Misses: When Martinez defended the middleweight championship against massive underdog Darren Barker on Oct. 1, he had a significant struggle before stopping him in the 11th round. It was far from Martinez's best night.

Told you. If anything Floyd took back his shine without even having to fight Pac and now all the blame Arum put on Floyd came back to him. After Saturday, people are not believing Pac can beat Floyd or that Mayweather is ducking Pac. Mark my words when I say a 4th JMM fight is going to hurt Pac more because he is going to lose again and another robbery by the judges is going finish him.

maynevers are the biggest cowards in boxing. Question how is it OK for maynever to make a guy come up from lightweight(jmm) and fight at ww but is to scared to fight Sergio Martinez at 154 ? Think about it maynever fans, scared to fight Martinez at 154 but made a fight with a lightweight ? now all of a sudden because pacquaio had a close fight with Marquez maynever ko's him ha ha ha. And on another boxing site floyd sr. is quoted as saying that he does not want his coward son fighting Martinez because he is a little bigger than him. But it's OK for floydie girl to fight these smaller guys ?? come on maynever the coward become a real fighter fight 2 or 3 times a year and show some balls like sugar ray Leonard did by going all the way up to super middle weight. Prove your legacy floydie the coward and take down everybody in and around your division instead of being known as the biggest coward in boxing.

You are pathetic. You are saying that margarito or mosley were cowards because they fought pacman? Martinez is the real king and needs to fight floyd to prove he is the king and prove that floyd is overrated.
