Official - Naseem Hamed Is Back!

OFFICIAL - NASEEM HAMED PLANS TO RETURN IN THE RING 2006

Hamed believes he can still win at the highest level
Britain's former WBO featherweight champion Prince Naseem Hamed has hinted at making a return to the ring after a three-year lay-off.

The 31-year-old Sheffield boxer has not fought since May 2002 but said he could re-appear in the new year.

"I've been boxing since I was seven," he told the Sheffield Star newspaper.

"I simply needed a break. I miss boxing and I believe boxing misses me, too. In the new year you could witness something special."

Hamed became Britain's youngest world champion when he won the world featherweight title aged 21 years and seven months in 1995 and defended it 15 times.

He also added the IBF crown when he beat Tom Johnson in London in 1997 and he claimed the WBC title with a points win over Cesar Soto in Detroit in 1999.

Hamed has fought 37 times as a professional, losing only to Marco Antonio Barrera in 2001 by decision.

nothing is official in boxing until contracts are signed and fighters are "a knockin' out"...

but this is closer news to hear about Hamed than has been the case for the past few...

I just don't think he will be the same "IF" he does return...like Jones and Tyson, they are all at their best when their confidence and peak conditioning are at an all time high...If he returns at anything above lightweight, he may end up just being a disgrace

          "A, I'm a wicked fighter, me."

I've heard this so many times and for so long it's not funny. It would be good if he came back and shocked the world by clearing out the division and showing Barrera how he should have done it. But the Brendan Ingle fighters rely on speed and reflex to do their work. Surely this would involve a complete overhaul of his style?

Apparently he didn't have very heavy hands, just power.
