All the while people expected that to happen. That is the reason why chicken Floyd chose to fight Ortiz and not the great Manny Pacquiao. Ortiz does not have the experience. We saw it from the first minute of the fight. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the dirtiest boxer of all time.

What Ortiz did was an adrenaline fueled, spur of the moment mistake. No excuses for the guy, and for the record, I don't even like him, but that's just reality. He did something ****** and probably intentional, but he doesn't have a dirty past, there's no reason to assume it was anything but an emotional response in the biggest fight of his life. It wasn't some cold and calculated plan, unlike Mayweather's. What Mayweather did was bait Ortiz into an undefensive stance, you know, the stance that can get you killed when you take a punch that hard to the side of your head, and then sucker punch him. Ortiz committed a mistake and apologized for it, Mayweather committed a disgrace.

If he's so good, and I believe he is, he would have thrown that "eye for an eye" bull**** out the window (which became irrelevant anyways since Ortiz was deducted a point), accepted Ortiz's apology and then ruined him down the stretch. That's what a man would do, not a coward. Aand don't start with the 'how many times does he need to hug him' crap, that'd only be a valid excuse if Mayweather didn't play along solely to land a sucker punch and actually gave Ortiz some kind of motion that he was done with the crap and ready to get started. He didn't, he tricked him to get a cheap win, plain and simple. Spin that **** however you want, you'll continue to be wrong.

Just for the record, Mayweather dont have a history of being dirty either, and you did not get butted in the face just prior to that incident.

Yes, Floyd had every right to cold **** Ortiz after a blatantly intentional headbutt, but come on, Lyle, get off Floyd's d1ck. Everyone knows that Floyd has never faced competition as solid as Barrera, Morales, and Marquez all in their primes. Say what you want about Pacquiao facing Floyd's "table scraps", but at least Manny had the guts to face Cotto and Margarito who Floyd avoided like the plague. As for Larry Merchant, he's always told Floyd, the ignorant bully what most hardcore fans have on their mind. His opposition is soft, and when Floyd threw a tantrum, Larry stood up to him just like Showtime's Jim Gray would've done. By the way, Lyle, what a$$ kissing by Larry to Manny would you be referring to for the win over Mosley? It was on Showtime so I don't recall Merchant interviewing Manny when the fight ended.

Manny did not fight a prime Morales, Barrera, and Marquez.

And btw, an old Morales and a game Marquez both beat him.

No, it would have really been Gatti 2. Why? Well Ortiz had absolutely no answer for Floyd's lead right hands. Floyd was loading them up and landing them at will. Ortiz had absolutely no answer for it. And with Ortiz bloating up 17 pounds within 24 hours, he would have really been hurt later on. Most who saw the fight had Floyd winning every round, including the 4th where again, he was just landing right hands and right hands over and over again.

gatti never landed any meaningful punches vs floyd . it was onesided. ortiz won round 2 and was winning round 4. was rounging up floyd at times and landing good shots. stop exaggerating by saying it was a blow out.

I can always count on getting a real nuthugging perspective whenever I read a Fitzsimmons article on boxingscene. There's no denying that Floyd is a supremely talented boxer that may be the best of this generation. We can hypothesize all we want but will never know for sure until he actually fights the best opponents available which he has a record of not always doing (Tszyu, Margarito, Cotto, Williams, Pacquiao, Martinez...). Both fighters are to blame here as both the head butt and the sucker punches were cheap shots. People seem to have lost sight that the "protect yourself at all times" rule is to prevent fighters from taking illegal shots. What pisses me off the most is the way both fighters were glossing on after the fight about how they "entertained" the fans. While May's shots "may" have been legal, they were not what I paid to see. I paid to see a boxing match. I did not pay to see one fighter end the fight by sucker punching a guy when he had his hands down and was clearly looking to the ref to resume the action. I would be equally upset if the head butt finished the fight. I didn't pay to see that. I am not entertained. I wanted to see a boxing match.
