Morales did better against Maidana than Ortiz did and didn't quit. That really speaks volumes to me about why Floyd is taking this fight.

The problem that people have is ever since the Hoya fight people have ignored the facts of the fighters that Mayweather has been facing (they were all Champions coming of KO victories). Outside of JMM they have all been legitimate fights and threats regardless of what critics think.
Floyd can move up to JMW. There isn't anyone at 147 outside of Pac. Ortiz IMO was Floyd's only option unless Berto would have won. Besides, no matter who Floyd fights at 147 he would get bashed. When and IF Pac fights Floyd, people WILL bash that fight too. History repeats itself.
So again, outside of Pac, there is nothing at 147 for Floyd. Its all at 154 and I believe Alverez will be a future oppoent for him. I think Alverez (if Bob allows it) will fight the Margarito vs Cotto II winner next year to unify. Then again, it could all be wishful thinking. But it makes sesne as the money is at 154 unless its Pac at 147.

If Ortiz beats Mayweather, his critics will have to take a second look at the Maidana fight and consider the possibility that by "quitting" to avoid serious injury, Ortiz in effect preserved himself as a fighter and by doing so actually made it possible to take advantage of the bigger opportunities when they ultimately came knocking on his door. Against Andre Berto, Ortiz answered the knock of that opportunity and won the WBC Welterweight Championship, a title belt that Ortiz truly coveted. Opportunity is again knocking for Victor Ortiz, this time very loudly against Floyd Mayweather.

It's not that I dislike every single thing about Floyd because after all he is a hard worker as far as training goes. But so is Bernard Hopkins and countless other fighters. You got to prove yourself against the best fighters there is and Floyd just aint doing that.

Taking a few hard punches against Berto proves he has heart?
The issue wasn't getting hit, it's what happens when the guy that hits him keeps hitting him, like Maidana did. What will Ortiz do next time he's in the ring with someone who keeps coming forward and stays in his face and Ortiz can't get away from him?
