Comments Thread For: CompuBox Stats Review: Berto-Zaveck, Russell-Miranda

Biloxi, MS - Fighting at a measured pace (58 punches thrown per round), hot featherweight prospect Gary Russell Jr. landed 60% of his power punches in his HBO debut. Russell also played some D while staying in the pocket, as the game Leonilo Miranda landed just 12% of his total punches.

I thought Zaveck won at least three rounds, but Berto hit harder and that was ultimately the difference. If Zaveck's skin held up, Berto would've been in serious trouble down the stretch.

How in the world could anyone have Zavec winning three rounds?

If I'm generous I could maybe give him 2. The 4th round(Clearly) and maybe the final round.

Zaveck landed 33 more power punches. He outworked Berto for the majority of the fight. There were some close rounds that could fairly be given to either fighter, but I thought Zaveck did the better work in the majority of the five rounds. But I'm mature, so I'm not going to disrespect someone for seeing it differently.

The punch that caused the cut was on his eyebrow, the swelling on his eye's was a result from a blatant headbutt, watch the fight, before round #5 Zaveck eyes are fine but he has a cut on his brow that is contained, then suddenly he has huge swelling, people kept saying it was some magical "uppercut" that landed in his eye but nobody has shown that punch, nobody can find it, all they can find is Berto putting his head down and rushing into Zaveck and Zaveck cringing in PAIN.

The Compubox stats clearly show that Zaveck not only outlanded him but he landed 33 more power shots, Berto was already gassed in round #5, had his mouth open, hands down and gasping for air. HBO was on berto's nuts all the fight, they didnt even mention the Headbutt and couldnt find the "Punch" that caused the cut. They completely ignored that Berto's punches were missing or hitting the glove or that Zaveck was landing the cleaner/harder punches.

Look at Berto clearly putting his head down, and rushing into Zaveck, first he hits his nose, then he comes up and pushes his head into his eye. Tell me if thats not blatant? You can see Zaveck Cringe in Pain as soon as that happens.

Thanks for the gifs, Medved. I hadn't seen those. I do think that Berto hits harder, even if the swelling was caused by a head butt, but we agree that Zaveck was out-pointing him. It's just sad that we didn't see the rest of the fight. It was very fun to watch, and it would've been interesting to see Zaveck take Berto into deep waters.

The commentary was some of the worst I have ever heard. All Kellerman talked about was how entertaining Berto is. They barely talked about what actually happened during the fight! Maybe they weren't paying attention. haha.

yeah i saw the HBO version on youtube today, holy **** what a crap commentary. and free advert for the PED master conte WTFF?? they didn't even see the cut on zavec's face at all, and when they did they said berto smashed his face. on TV slovenia the commentary was much better, the commentators saw zavecs damage immediately and called it a headbutt right away (it was like holy **** what the hell happened zavec face is totally bloody. it mus have been a clash of heads let's wait for the slomos). and there were no slomos. sloppy job by HBO. then they asked zavec ringside, and he confirmed it. but he said it was not intentional.
well at least they commended the fans.
