Salvador Sanchez vs. Wilfredo Gomez II

Guys, do any of you think that this fight would have been different than the first one? I am a fan of both guys. Just because I am PR does not mean that I hate boxers from other countries like some here apparently do. I am one of those who think that a rematch would have been much different, since rumor has it that Gomez was unprepared for that, the biggest fight of his career. Gomez was dying for a rematch against the great Sanchez. In fact, Gomez was so upset after Salvador's death, that when a PR reporter interviewed him and asked for his reaction, he started to cry. When the reporter asked him why he was crying, Wilfredo said because he was never going to have a chance to prove that he could beat Sánchez. I also heard that he could not believe that Sanchez' death was true, so he went to the funeral to make sure he really was dead.

I am not saying that Gomez would have defeated Sanchez. I just think the fight could have been more competitive.

i feel very left out i never seen legends like sanchez or gomez fight but from what i heard they were both amazing...
so what hapened in tha fighT?
and i feel theres no excuses, loss is a loss. gomez is a legend, how could he not be prepared for a fight like this? i kinda doubt that. he just got beat by tha better fighter. i cant really speak on this tho, never seen any of these fighters.

Wow..Gomez really wanted that rematch, What a fight that would of been. Gomez overlooked Sanchez becuase he was partying alot while Sanchez was training his ass off. Would of been great Im thinking Gomez.

I am not from that era, since I am just 22 years old. The thing is that I enjoy old school stuff and look for it, download fights, read articles, and so on. Those were rumors that I have heard from fans around the country. I said that I am a fan of both fighters and although I know that Sánchez was the 126 pound king, Gómez was a phenom and perhaps a better fighter P4P. This has nothing to do with nationality by the way.

Just so that you have an idea. Wilfredo was 32-0-1 with 32 Ko's when he faced Salvador.

I see Sanchez Stopping Gomez and dropping him numerous times again.

The fact of the matter is after its all said and done, the dust has settled, the excuses are no longer valid.

I doubt Gomez was really partying the Gomez vs Sanchez at the time was the biggest fight that could be made in latin America!!!!

It's not about excuses. It's about what has been said for years. Anyway, if you have seen several Gomez fights, you realize that he was no ordinary fighter. He was a phenom with devastating power and aggressive style. He could also box and was a three-division champion. He was not at his best that night for whatever reason. I have heard a few but that ain't the point anyway.

This is not about nationality I say again. I want to make that crystal clear.

I kind of agree with ultimate,I mean its very common for a lot of stuff to surface afterwards, excuses wise.

But since both these guys were so talented,I cant say i would pick one over the other,I would root for sanchez though he impressed the hell out of me,where as i havent seen enough from gomez to form a concrete opinion.

Sal had too much for Gomez in their first meeting, and as every round progressed that was very evident.

A rematch would be very similar, Sanchez dropping Gomez a couple of times and finishing him off in the middle rounds.

i agree with you exciter this was not the same gomez that fought zarate gomez always attacked but in his fight with sanchez he was very tentative also it is true that gomez did not take sanchez seriously which was a big mistake he started training 20 days prior to the fight ....but still i give sanchez all the credit he in my eyes is the greatest mexican champion ..after this fight gomez was very humble and his only true motivation was a re-match with sanchez like you said in your 1st. post he was very affected by sanchez's death and it is true when he was 1st. interviewed he broke down in tears ..to this day he really can't speak about that fight .....i am going with my heart here and say that a prepared gomez would of won a re-match ...
