JEFF MAYWEATHER: "FLOYD HAS ALREADY FOUGHT VICTOR ORTIZ"
By Percy Crawford | August 15, 2011
"I think Victor Ortiz is a beast, but I think Victor Ortiz is going to be taken to school like he's never been taken to school before in his life. I mean, Floyd has already fought Victor Ortiz," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather, who shared his thoughts on the September 17th clash between his newphew, Floyd Mayweather, and WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz. According to Jeff, although Ortiz will be a hungry and determined opponent, he won't present any problems that Floyd hasn't already dealt with before. "He fought Victor Ortiz when he fought Ricky Hatton, and Ricky Hatton was a better version of Victor Ortiz," he continued, comparing Ortiz to a poor man's version of former jr. welterweight champion Ricky Hatton, who Floyd defeated via 10th round TKO back in 2007.
While Jeff is confident that Floyd will have no problems preparing for the style of Ortiz, he's also confident that there's no way Ortiz will be ready for what Floyd will bring to the ring. "Victor Ortiz has never faced anyone who is remotely close to having Floyd's ability. So with that being said, he's going to be taken to school, drowned in the deep water, and get himself knocked out," Jeff stated. In fact, Jeff is of the opinion that not only will Floyd be technically smarter than Ortiz, but he'll also be physically stronger as well. "They think Victor Ortiz is stronger than Floyd. He is not stronger than Floyd. Just like people thought Shane Mosley was stronger than Floyd and he was not stronger than Floyd, that's the exact same thing," he added.
"He's too smart for him. He can stand right in front of Victor Ortiz and do whatever he wants to do to him," Jeff concluded.
