Marciano had like 3 amateur fights and went on to win all of his pro fights.

Jack Johnson started at a late age but for his era it wasn't a big deal. Tarver had a lot of amatuer experience but didn't go pro til his late 20's.

Hard to think of many successful pro fighters with no amateur experience.

Marciano had 12 fights.

But you are not necessarily to old, Joppy himself started late i believe and he was champ.
