The lower divisions in Boxing are underappreciated.

Hey guys, I was recently talking to an aquaintance who I had no idea was into boxing, he knew some things most casual fans don't so we started talking about boxing but it really pissed me off when he said the following:

Dude, who cares about the smaller weights? If I want to see midgets fight I go to a circus or go to the park and watch kids at the playground fight. That's why they don't make money, its ridiculous looking at guys who never developed I mean 112 pounds LOL
I've seen some similar things on nsb where people just dont bother with the smaller division. They're missing the best boxing available. Who cares about size! they perform at a level the heavyweight division has wet dreams about. There's a lot of talent there I really get pissed off when people say lower weight classes don't matter.

    What do you guys think?

I never paid much attention to the lower weights until i saw Naz, after that i went back to rewatch fights from the lower weight, discover Finito lopez, saw Quiroga-anifowoshe etc but the lower weight need a big star to shine upon their division if not then you would get comments like those ones.

It's not that we need a big star because potential stars are already there, it just needs more exposure. I'm sure if promotional companies and the networks began to add some of the lower weight title fights and eliminators to the big events people would be exposed to them and eventually the fighters might be asked to be back.

I honestly pay just about zero attention to 105 and 108. I watch everything from 112 and up. I know there are good fights and fighters there, just don't see them enough to care and I'm not going to go out of my way and download some japanese card or whatever it may be.

105 and 108 are bull**** classes anyway, just make it 112. No grown man actually weights 105 pounds

They are unappreciated because there is no Americans dominating it.

Or maybe that there is just no promotional media blitz for those lower weight class.

Its not like the US didnt cover Pacquaio, Barrera, Morrales, Naz, Marquez, Juan Ma, Donaire, Gamboa and didnt hype them up.

If they are good fights then I'll take interest.

                  Calderon vs Segura

                  Darchinyan vs Donaire

                  Marquez vs Vasquez

Been some great fights at the lower weight classes in recent years

Bantam to feather seems to have a lot of talent at the moment and some great fights to be made.

Lot more interenting than the cruiserweight and heavyweight scene.

Yea I get what you say with the lowest divisions. 105 and 108. They should just make 112 the lowest.

The flyweight division is pretty good and great fights can be made. Hernan Marquez, Giovanni Segura, Roman Gonzalez and even the known warriors like Chango vargas, Rodel Mayol, Edgar Sosa, Brian Viloria, Luis Concepcion are always for sure good fights. Even the lesser known guys will put on gutsy performances.
