Manny Pacquiao=Poor HBO Ratings? Wtf?

According to this article at this site,

Davis said that while Pacquiao may be a big draw in the Philippines, he was a disappointment in terms of HBO TV ratings and his last fight against Marquez “rated only 4.5 percent,” which Davis disclosed was below the HBO standard of “no less than 6 percent.”

He said fighters who “fail to get the required ratings on HBO are scheduled on Boxing After Dark” which is regarded as a lower level boxing program where the total purse for both fighters is only some $500,000 to $600,000.

That really sucks. The most entertaining Featherweight and one of most entertaining boxers ever, period, and he's getting called a disappointment? That is really bad to hear. I thought HBO was all giddy for Manny(well as long as he beat Marquez), looks like they aren't.

Well that's okay. HBO is protecting it's own interest . . . not anybody else. That's business. And let's admit it . . . . Manny is not that popular in U.S. yet. Not yet that's why he needs to beat JMM, MOrales and possiblY MAB AGAIN.

Manny may not be a household name...but really...in each sport theres maybe a handful of "household names" (i consider it a household name when a person not interested in any sport knows one of its players)...soccer has 1 (beckham) golf 1 (tiger)...NBA...maybe about 5...in boxing right now...MAYBE 2 with Roy Jones and De La Hoya...

To people complaining about low ratings....as a person that works for an advertising agency...all i have to say is promotion=ratings.

what the hbo guy was saying is a thing of the past. manny is more well-known now not only in the u.s. but in the major continents of the world. off course they wouldn't tell you that manny's popularity is on the steady rise, becasue it would out his company at a disadvantage and will give credence to manny's insistence of getting a higher purse.

his comment was therefore to protect hbo's interest (and murad's)
and didn't account of the recent events sourrounding pacman. but this is the fact, pacman is an asset to hbo and that's the reason why they are putting their money on manny. imho, pacman is one of the most exciting fighters at present and perhaps the only truly one who enjoys fighting on top of the ring no matter who the opponent is (within his weight class).
