yes castillo had an advantage. he didn't have to stress his body out as much as corrales. losing weight is one thing, but being depleted of all your body fluids, basically being dehydrated, takes a lot out of you. not having to make weight, and actually gaining another pound or so is an advantage. that means your body has had more time to recuperate before the fight. having better rest and being hydrated means you are fully rested. which was the state that castillo was in and corrales wasn't. also castillo gaining weight after failing to make weight seems more along the lines of he wasn't even trying to lose any poundage, but more relying on his boy to rig the scale(cheating). even though they weighed in at 147, the damage stress to make weight for corrales was already done, castillo never reached the contracted wieght, so obviouly his body wasn't put through the ringer like corrales. castillo's win is marred by the controversy and now they'll have to do it at 140, because corrales looked week at the weigh in, he had a hard time making the weight this time too....

It's 3 pounds... you take a sh#% and you weigh 3 pounds less...it's not like he was ten pounds over...take off some clothes and you within a pound.

Well, I agree to a certain extent, however you are overlooking the fact that Castillo had to further restrict his weight after the initial weigh in, therefore maintaining himself in an unnatural state of dehydration. Corrales on the otherhand was able to rehydrate immediately after the first weigh in an therefore had more time to recover. Had Castillo missed the initial 135lb limit by a large margin say 140lbs then yes he would have had a distnct advantage, however he was only up by 2.5lbs which is not IMO anything to base an advantage on. What is unanswered in my mind is why Castillo failed to make weight, was it on purpose or not. Given the fact that this was a fight of such significance it surprises me that he or his camp allowed a get out of jail free card to Corrales.

How come some of you guys are saying that Corrales had to struggle to make the 135 lbs. weight when he is coming from 130 lbs?, he was an smaller fighter before, and this is suppouse to be a "better" weight division for him, because he is stronger and blah, blah, blah.... ??
I think that weight is really important in this sport, that's why there's a lot of weight classes with just about 3 to 5 pounds of difference. But in this particular case, I don't think that fact affected the ending of the fight, because Castillo had to make some adjustments before he entered the ring for the fight, and in my opinion, that made it for the "overweight" that Castillo came with on the weight ceremony.

i depends how easy corrales makes weight. if he struggled also then the advantage is with castillo because after he failed the first time he went away and came back HEAVIER, so he knew he had no chance of making 135lb and winning the fight.
having watched the fight, and they both weighed similar come fight time (chico a little heavier), i think the difference was castillo's hand speed. it seemed quicker than chico's, and castillo was able to catch chico with counter left hooks and right hands at will. it was a sweet counter left hook that finished the fight.
              roll on no.3!

sir, corrales is splitting at the seams to make 135.he's a bigger guy. he walks around above 150.and still a beanpole.

and no. i agree the weight issue didn't affect the outcome.castillo won it fair.and i am a corrales fan.

weird how thata happens on this site, huh.

Listen, Castillo, i believe, never intended to make weight. He was therefore at an advantage because he could train for however mnay weeks knowing he only had to get down to 138 or so. Corrales trained knowing he had to get at 135. If you spend 8 weeks settling your body into a heavier weight than your opponent then you will have an advantage. i'm sorry. That meant he couls eat that much more each day, train that much more/less (whatever suited him), and drink that much more water in the lead up to the weigh in. These are all advantageous i believe to Castillo.

I guess the bottom line is Corrales out-weighed Castillo come fight time.

Castillo was my pick to beat Diego but when I heard that he looked very drained from trying to make weight I switched my pick.

But the biggest difference in the fight was last time, Jose Luis had fought 3 fights, 3 big fights, in 6 months. This time he was fresh. And you see what happened.

by not making weight, castillo was more rested, he didn't go through the same amount of stress that corrales did. it's like he had a day or so more rest then corrales, even though they had the same amount of time to rest, not making the weight means that castillo hadn't been in the same physical challenge as corrales. i read some one was asking why it was hard for corrales to make weight this time even though he came from 130. coming up from 130 is a natural progression, as we all get older we all put on some weight, it's inevitable. 95% of fighters walk around at a higer weight than when they fight, making 130 was killing corrales and now making 135 is starting to take it's toll. me personally i think that they should both get it on at 140 and settle this......but they should at least take about 9 months off.....
