Can the courts force an apology and a retraction?

Not too clued up on US law but when they have libel cases over here the offending newspapers have to print an apology and a retraction.

And if the Mayweathers were to repeat the PED accusations, would they be in contempt of court?

I'm not really familiar on the penalties with a defamation conviction but i could guess it maybe one of them. The compensation one thing for sure is the cost of the suit to be borne by the guilty party, whatever moral, real or quantified damages depends on the judge discretion which i would guess again too be not that much.

But heck, this the US! they even penalized fastfood chains millions of dollars for a much more frivolous cases of slipping on a wet floor.

The best one I hear was a woman sued for millions, a department store for tripping over a small child that was running around the store, but the child was her's.

No **** they should be worried. The clowns on this board who said this was a joke got slapped back to reality when Golden Boy was forced to grovel at Manny's feet and give up undisclosed terms after the judge told them to go **** themselves when they tried to have it dismissed. And Floyd Sr just can't help himself everytime a reporter's around, he just keeps adding more material and digging himself deeper and deeper.

People need to understand that Boxers/athletes on Manny's level are more than just private individuals, they're brands, almost like corporations. What do you think would happen if say Burger King went on a public smear campaign of McDonald's and claimed (without a shred of tangible evidence) that Mickey D's was using rat meat instead of chicken? That's right, the King would get the pants sued off him and would have to fork over millions of dollars.

          Same scenario here.

dude if defamation damages were significant arum wouldn't let gbp go away so easily. idk the details of their agreement ,but most likely it wasn't much more than apology+lawyer expenses. arum must have realized after pac-mosley that they have a rather shaky case at least with respect to gbp.

That's all you had to say. Stop talking out of your ass.

It's also clear that GBP stepping away from the Marquez match (they had the right to delay it until next Feb.) was part of the deal. That alone is worth about $70 million+.

If they had a 'shaky case' then Golden Boy would've said see you in court, if it ever made it that far. But for some reason they felt compelled to settle before it went any further... after trying on at least 2 occasions to get the case dismissed and failing. On the contrary, GBP realized they were going to be taken to the cleaners so they settled for the public apology, undisclosed terms, and stepping aside from the Marquez deal.

This guy is really stu pid!

It is not about how much he is making now but how much more he can earn! if only he's not been maliciously accused by the Mayweathers.

The dent on his legacy even very little.

And psychologically and emotionally how he and his family much affected by this baseless accusations.

From the time Mayweather accused Manny to now, how much has PAC's net worth dropped.

Also, Mayweathers could very well be hit with PUNITIVE damages, worth 10 of millions of dollars. Considering how uneducated and idiotic the Mayweathers have acted, as usual, it's very likely they will be hit with Punitive damages.

Floyd's legacy is pretty much ruined, this is what he will be remembered for.
