Post-fight comments: Sam Peter's manager demands a rematch

    from east_side... post-fight comments

    "Post-fight comments:

After the fight the men’s faces reflected the judges?decision. While Klitshcko had some slight bruising and swelling under his left eye (caused more by heads colliding than punches), Peter’s eyes were almost swollen shut, and he had been bleeding from the nose and mouth through the end of the fight. Klitschko told HBO’s Larry Merchant that “Peter is a strong fighter with a good chin, but not much technique? He also mentioned the rabbit punching, and even looked upset about it as he was pacing back and forth (as if he was still in the rhythm of the fight) while talking to Larry. Peter looked exhausted, and he looked defeated while stating “he beat me, what can I say??to Merchant. He refused to give Klitschko any credit however, blaming his loss on his opponent’s holding. After the fight, Wlad told reporters that he would prefer to fight Brewster to “answer questions??let’s hope that’s not all talk. This would be another good one.

    Rematch?

At the post-fight press conference Peter’s manager demanded a rematch, which is just ridiculous. If the situation was reversed, Peter’s camp wouldn’t want to go backwards either ?they’d want to go after a belt as the current IBF/WBO mandatory. Perhaps in the future Klitschko will hold one of those belts, and Peter will earn a mandatory position. Then, and only then, should these guys do a rematch. Besides, if they did an immediate rematch we’d only see more of the same ?the better boxer out-boxing the plodding brawler."

    from some thisday online:

Peter wining about clinching and wanting rematch

Nigeria’s Samuel Peter, whose dream of getting a shot at the International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight title suffered a set-back Saturday night following his unanimous decision loss to Wladimir Klitschko, wants a rematch with the Ukrainian.
Speaking yesterday on BBC Fast Track, the Akwa Ibom indigene insisted he would prove he is the better boxer if only Klitschko agrees to a rematch.
"The referee messed up the fight by allowing Klitschko to be clinging onto me. That was very unfair. Any day, any time, I can prove that I am better if only Klitschko can give me a rematch," he insisted.
Nicknamed the Nigerian Nightmare due to his impressive fight record in which he recorded 21 KOs in his fledging career, Peter said his dream for an IBF heavyweight title remains on course despite Saturday's setback.
"I was hoping to win this fight but I am not loosing sleep over the setback. I know I can still get the belt with more effort.?br /> In Saturday's fight, Peter knocked down the Ukrainian thrice but still lost 144-111 scoring on the three judges card.
Klitschko used better boxing skills to outpoint Peter, who dropped to 24-1.
Peter, who is used to slugging his opponents, a tactics he perfected from his amateur days, spent the whole 12 rounds looking to land one big punch that could put the Ukrainian to sleep. But the chance never came, as Klitschko was fond of holding on to Peter without incurring the referee's wrath.
Peter's friend and former colleague in the Nigerian amateur camp, Enebong Umo Ette was equally unfazed by the loss to the Ukrainian.
"Peter really tried. I know some day he will win the heavyweight title for us to emulate him."
Enebong exonerated Peter from blame in trying to knock out Klitschko. "In the diabolical setting we have here, we were made to understand that for one to be truly judged the winner in the amateur ranks were most people are not familiar with the rules, one really need to knockout one's opponent to be double sure. I think this the style that has stuck with Peter till date.?

Ya Peter is saying some ****** ****, but its his first lose and he is intitled to be alittle upset. I am a big Wlad fan, but nothing Peter has said bothers me at all. It is good he wants a rematch, shows he still has the desire, unlike what Ruiz does after a lose. I will give him up to his next fight to ***** alittle over his first lose.

it was a pretty entertaining fight but neither of them are great fighters , if Peter can`t knock you out early he runs out of idea`s and kilitchko is the American version of Henry Akinwande , ive not seen so much running since carl lewis...

peter is young, and still very green.........he has plenty of time for a rematch later on........

the first thing he should do is sack his coaching staff.....

and then hopefully lose15-20pounds, learn to box a bit more, etc....

Why have a rematch when the winner of the fight goes for a title shot next?
