haha battling nelson who is that dude in your profile picture. lol ive been wanting to ask you that for a while.
The pic is Oscar 'Battling' Nelson. Former LW champion, conqueror of the great Joe Gans and the toughest fighter that ever lived.

The pic is from his older days. Taken after he was assaulted by 2 robbers who managed to steal his coat even though he kicked both of their asses. After that the already punchdrunk Nelson got totally bonkus and hs tormented brain only allowed him to say few whispering words. He died penniless a couple of years later.

      That guy's got some bio:

Winning the title and other fights in the 41st round or so.

I don't think he ducked anyone.

Sad ending though from all the punches. A bit like Emile Griffith being assaulted by a few gutless punks when older (and drunk).

Nelson and physiker - thanks for the info. There are so many great pugilists out there who do not get the attention and respect they deserve. It's up to us real boxing fans to keep their memories alive, because legends never die.

That was a great read on Nelson (and Wolgast); especially describing the aftereffects of Wolgast - that is very sad. I hope those punks got stabbed or something.

I want to go pay my respects to the commemorative plaque.
