It's almost like when Mike Tyson was advertised as this ferocious beast and everyone was interested if it was true or not. With Pac he's advertised as this tasmanian-devil in the ring, but a kid outside of it. A good portion of the millions that followed Tyson in those days were more interested in just seeing him in action and how he was gonna rip apart the man in front of him. It's not to that level yet, but it's getting there with Manny.
These types of fights are for the casuals and corporate America. Corporate America needs to see that boxing can generate excitement and a following again.
I'm glad that you brought up aspects of being a casual fan. I personally feel that being a hardcore fan sometimes contributes negatively to how we enjoy the sport. When we get in too deep, we lose sight of the reason we first got into the sport. In the beginning we were just amazed to see two athletes fight amazingly and we just wanted to see more of that. We didn't care to think how this fighter or this fight was reflected in the history of the sport. Who cares, it was just fuc.kin awesome to watch boxing.
