What is that exactly? You see all this talk about REAL boxing fans on this site, but mostly it just seems that if you don't support the same fighters they do you are not a REAL boxing fan. Reading threads on here I am definitely not a hardcore boxing fan because I don't watch every single fight that is aired or can be seen on the internet like quite a few people on here. Though I do watch almost every fight card on HBO and Showtime and buy PPV's if they are worthy. I don't watch Friday Night Fights ever and I don't watch fight streams on the web unless it's a PPV I didn't feel like buying. Does this make me a casual fan?

not necessarily.
a casual boxing fan imo is someone who just doesn't know anything about the sport itself, or anyone who doesnt know any fighters other than Mayweather and Pacquiao. Most "casual" fans i've talked to insist that Mike Tyson is the best fighter of all time because he knocked a lot of people out. Most casual fan's have no idea about what fighter fights at what weight class etc etc

casual fans are the people who only tune in for mega fights like Floyd or Pac. If you ask them who is there favorite, they will name them. Thats alright but if you ask them name some other top boxers, they say Oscar, Tyson, & so on. You ask them did they watch Berto vs Ortiz and they say, who? They never heard of Tim Bradley or Segrio Martinez. Thats the casual fan

my close friends, through me, have mostly become casual boxing fans
some of them are becoming more involved, and are starting to entertain the idea of going through the process of becoming a boxing fan, because it's not simple
though a real boxing fan should obviously have the real priorities straight (family and health, finacial security, positive relationships,) his life reverberates in boxing. it's bouncing around him constantly.
boxing has shaped the man i've become
and god willing it will continue to change me into a better man
it maintains perspective, motivates us to be better, gives us guys that we can look up to.
that's not the case with the casual fan
who want to know when floyd mayweather will finally stop "running away" from pacquiao
or the folks that think pacquiao "should just take the test"
casual fans that stay casual fans arent real fans of the sport.
they like the allure of boxing. we take it for granted, but boxing is "cool."
they also enjoy the excitement (which i believe is deeply ingrained in humanity, the rush of seeing talented and conditioned men fighting)
and knockouts
casual fans (and *****es ) dig knockouts
they wont watch/ will not enjoy an undercard (unless somebody is getting an ass whooping, bleeding everywhere, etc)Last edited by New England; 04-22-2011, 09:33 AM.
