My question on Victor Ortiz is can he get up for every fight like this. I had bet on Berto but when I saw the look of determination Victor's face before the first round, I knew this was going to tough out for Berto. If Ortiz can continually be this motivated for every fight from now on, people better look out. He was a man who was determined to not lose this fight. I can't wait for his next fight...

Regarding Berto, I think all the questions regarding his heart, toughness AND chin have been answered. He did go down a couple of times but he took a beating for almost the entire fight and was still standing (although barely). People said he was chinny and once he got chin checked by a proven puncher, he would get KO'd. Well, Ortiz chin checked him time and time again and Berto hung around. You gotta give him that much...

Man this fight was so good i myself was shaking during the fight. And no I did not make any bets because I knew this fight could go either way 50/50. What I find very interested is how some experts and especially alot of people on these forums gave no credit to victor ortiz to even have a chance to win saying hes the smaller man and how berto should face better opposition rather than ortiz etc etc.. to all those people that assumed berto will walk trough ortiz, i hope you guys figured out you dont know **** about boxing haha. I doesnt take much to look at the way a fighter fights and see that he is gifted. unfortunately for victor ortiz he was not mentally strong in the fights against maidana and peterson and perhaps his corner doesnt not know how to motivate him well. But now we have a different ortiz, the ortiz from last saturday can accomplish anything he wants he just has to believe in himself and dont quit. This is why the top guys at 140 did not want to take the risk with victor ortiz, well unfortunately for them ortiz will be waiting for any champ at 140 who wants to move up. I will say that ortiz will only get stronger at 147 as he develops into that weight. this is the perfect weight for him maybe even 154lb but there will be so much talent at 147 for the next 5 years. I have ortiz winning against Khan,Maidana, bradley, mosley, canelo, marquez. I believe this is the most dangerous fighter for pacman at 147, but pacman is a punching machine with so much speed, power and most important heart.and i just can not imaging nobody beating pacman in a 12round all out war. I wonder if manny has any intention of getting back his 147 belt after relinquishing it

I was so impressed with Ortiz, he showed not only amazing heart but that he can go 12 hard fought rounds at a very high pace with ease.

I know the boxing "fans" will discredit Ortiz for this and say Berto was nothing but a hype job but he wasn't. Berto is the truth and just ran into a better skilled and bigger heart in Ortiz.
Hype job or not; this fight at this point in time in their respective careers will go down in the boxing books as a "huge deal." Berto was highly favored and highly rated. It's legit. Ortiz deserves the respect and praise. I'm sure critics will come, but the fact of the matter is, he fought a great fight. Props to Berto for hanging in there, but Ortiz was the better man.

lets be real the only reason why berto hung around was because of that aweful ref. His chin is crap and was never elite to begin with. If the ref did the right thing and take points away like in the coillazo fight then berto wouldv been either KOed or DQed. I give berto that he got heart tho, and hes dangerous but great win for ortiz

i thought ortiz would win by k.o but berto has heart, nonetheless i knew ortiz would be better and stronger than people gave him credit for and as a result made me some money.

Both are very good fighters - and to beat each one of them it takes a very good fighter - both do get hurt but usually go the distance - Ortiz quit against Maidana but wasn't knocked out badly - could have happened but who knows...

Berto is a good fighter but he lacks fundamentals - against most opponents his power and speed is enough - but if you go beyond that he not has much else - he can't jab his way to a decision - he can't defend himself properly - Berto if he doesn't get himself a good trainer will be another waste of talent - look at Zab Judah for example. Berto simply needs to learn to box after a gameplan - you can't come into a fight throwing bombs and hope that it's enough.

Ortiz is a good fighter with good fundamentals - he just gets lazy at times - second half of the Peterson fight - overall Ortiz has a brighter future - if he can keep that determination - because he has good fundamentals - enough power to hurt you - and pretty solid handspeed.

Berto must definitely correct a lot of things - like Sugar said - his balance most definitely - and it starts with proper boxing techniques - if he doesn't change anything he will still beat probably about 85% of his opponents - but for the top like Pacquiao and Mayweather it won't be enough - Pacquiao would murder him because Berto has no defense - and Mayweather would school him badly with his superior boxing mind - and the bad things is not only the way he fights - but also like I said the gameplan - does anybody saw a gameplan??? I mean what did his trainer do - well Ortiz quit before so we just jump on him and make him quit - it will work like that - I mean c'mon - I mean Ortiz is not Duran - but do you think that anybody took Duran lightly after the Leonard fight - if I as no boxing coach know that Ortiz has pretty solid handspeed - can **** and is technically better than Berto - how can his trainer not know - and work out a few gameplans??? I could be Berto's trainer too then - not to take anything away from Ortiz - I like both very much

I simply hope that Ortiz keeps his determination - I could see a Ortiz-Khan showdown down the road - and I wouldn't count Ortiz out - I think for Bradley because of the size it will be difficult to beat Khan - but Ortiz I would give a hell of a chance...

Berto has to change trainers and really start to learn how to box - at least a little bit

/\/\/\Personally, I think Ortiz KO's Khan, if he attacks the way he did Berto, there's no way Khan keeps him off of him.

We know Khan has no chin, Ortiz can take a serious shot and is much, much stronger. If I was Roach, I would stay as far away from Ortiz as possible.

Whats all this crap about berto having heart bert sugar is confused do not take his opinion seriously. It was a great fight, i knew ortiz would better berto after the opening seconds when i saw which approach Ortiz choose to take...

However when i ever see a fighter being pressured in the corner and then drops to one knee because he cant stand the anticipation of getting chinned that to me lads is not heart...

People have been confusing that as heart ever since gatti took an 8 count against ward. heart in that situation would be to block a few of those (which was not going to happen since berto has an awful defense) and come back with a flurry and fight your way out of that predicament. Heart is when a fighter gets downed gets up and in the same round downs his opponent thats heart.

And too many people have doubted ortiz' heart but i saw great heart even in the maidana fight. I am willing to give victor ortiz an excuse for that loss and you will see what i mean when ortiz fights maidana next which will happen.

Can't take away from his impressive win...
yes, i have been saying that for years about berto

if berto wasnt holding ALL NIGHT LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG

ortiz would have had him out of there in 4 rounds

also, khan in the mccloskey fight was not sitting down on his punches,,,

he was fleeing as he was throwing and landed very little flush

i was quite disappointed in khan...you would have thought he was fighting

                      mike tyson

fighting like that in the states and khan wont win a round against ortiz if he

is active and attacking landing shots...
