Comments Thread For: Team McCloskey: Khan Made a Big Mistake, PPV Bombs

Amir Khan has lost "a big lump sum" by apparently refusing to lower himself to fighting on Sky Sports 3 this Saturday. The WBA light-welterweight champion's defence against Paul McCloskey in Manchester was downgraded from Sky Box Office to the broadcaster's regular subscription channels before Khan confirmed that he will instead appear on the minor pay-per-view station Primetime TV.

should he beat mccloskey, he needs to quickly repair them bridges with sky, because he needs them going forward.

smart move, especially going to Primte time who had been picking up a lot of boxing cards lately, this will be a boost for them. Not a bad move at all. Prime time may gain a lot more subscribers now and then they can add the money into their boxing pool.

I wouldnt of been suprised if this fight was just canceled. What a shambles!
You cant blame sky. If the promotion cant get a decent card together, then they only got themselves to blame.
Khan needs to get people behind him who know what they are doing. I know you would want to be surounded by family, but they all seem to be out for the coin!

you think so?! i very much doubt it TBH. PT is hardly known here. and froch doesn't seem to be thrusting himself into the limelight via PT, even though he should be a massive name in the UK.

PT is all well and good for hardened boxing fans, but isn't the stomping ground of your 'casual' boxing fan. PT isn't going to be able to compete with Sky on any fronts.

He needs to go back to sky. Simples.

            Your spot on!

Primetime ain't going to persuade any casual fan in the UK to purchase a boxing event. You could ask your average Joe boxing fan and he wouldn't be able to tell you what primetime is let alone where to find it! The channel is far to obscure to draw in any more fans than an event on Sky would. Khan needs to stay on Sky and build up his popularity in this country as he still doesn't have universal support in the UK (that is a whole different debate altogether though).

Just look at easily our most entertaining fighter. Froch should be as big as Hatton but because he's tied up to Primetime majority of fans just don't see his fights. Get it sorted with Sky Khan.

You work for Khan, don't you?

How the hell could you call it a smart move? This is not a must see fight that people will go out of their way to see. I agree with Hearn, Khan should have made good out of a bad situation and just tried to get as many viewers as possible.

You surround yourself with a bunch of greedy idiots with no organisational skills and expect to prosper?Wake up Mr Khan, this aint driving cabs or cleaning carpets.Reason why everyone withdrew was just because Khan didnt want to pay people, you got to share the cake Khan.Rahman was on last minute as a way of resurrecting this card otherwise it was dead.Hope no one buys this card, have maybe 1200 buys so this can be an expensive lesson.

We will be hearing juicy details from Frank Warren soon

I agree with McCloskey's promoter. Team Khan should've accepted the Sky Sports 3 offer. It would then atleast get more viewers and Sky would still show all the promotional footage they filmed.

Only a small amount of boxing fans will be watching the fight now. Amir won't be able to expand his audience.

Team Khan is full of amateurs. I would fire them all.
