When I was younger, 15-16 years old, I went overseas to the Caribbean where i'm from, DR, to play baseball for a couple of years. My teammates of course are strictly Dominican, I was the only traveler there. Anyways, these guys played baseball since they were toddlers, and all they know is baseball. But one thing they didn't know one active baseball player or even about the history of the sport, in terms of names and records. But mind you, these guys grow up to play in the majors and be watched on TV but they couldn't tell you their favorite players name.
James Kirkland might not be poor from the Carribean but he was once broke wasn't he, and lived in a car or something, or maybe i'm confusing him with the Petersons? Maybe all he knows is to box at the gym, and he feels it's a waste of time to look in to history or know who Erik Morales is or who Maidana is.
