Comments Thread For: Cotto Talks Margarito Rematch, The Rivalry, Controversy

WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto is scheduling a meeting with Top Rank to discuss a possible rematch with Antonio Margarito on July 16. Ever since the incident in 2009, where illegal inserts were found in Margarito's handwraps before a scheduled fight with Shane Mosley, there has been doubts about the legit nature of Margarito's eleven round knockout of Cotto from 2008. Cotto says a lot of the bad blood is behind him and now he's looking to the future.

Im not a cotto fan! But I think cotto Is showing class by admitting he made mistakes against margarito! cotto has never publicly said he thinks margarito cheated! cotto has maybe questioned things! But never whined or cried like his fans! If cotto can be this honest and say that fight is is the past. Then maybe cottos fans can do the same and let both fighters settle it in the ring!

Step by step. First Margo, then we'll see what happens.
Offers will come from everywhere. Money talks. He will not retire so quickly if the money is right, so the Berto's, Mayweather's, Canelo's will always be a possibility for the next 4 years.

As for the bandage, he knows Margo cheated, but he was classy as always and recognizes he did not fight the way he was supposed to.

Classy Statement Mr Cotto, I always look back at that footage July 26, 2008 on that late Saturday Night

I see two men who left everything in that ring and walked out different people. One was crowned the winner and the other received his 1st loss. To me though nobody won that fight, both left there primes in that ring, that warm summer night a few years ago

Would Cotto still be a bad man if had he skipped the Margarito fight?

This was the fight that destroyed Cotto both mentally and physically so am glad he said that was in the past (With or without plaster), Which means he isnt holding anything back, Which means the rematch should be done for July..

If Floyd goes through Don King, I'd say it's a possibility.

Cotto can win if he really has learned from his mistakes.

His entire camp has to be dedicated to staying off the ropes and not running out the way after a combo.

I would have Cotto throw a very low volume of punches early. Moslty the jab and a left Hook here and there.

He has to clinch or turn Margo through out the fight. He can't get into sustained exchanges.

Cotto can win if he fights the right fight.

Pink bandage? The wraps that were taken from the Marg-Mosley fight were white.

I hope younger up and coming boxers take note on Miguel's character. We need more fighters like him.
