TIMOTHY BRADLEY: ALEXANDER WAS EASY WORK, I DON'T THINK AMIR KHAN WANTS TO FIGHT
By G. Leon
GL: Cong**** on your victory. Can you give us some thoughts on your win over Devon Alexander?
Timothy Bradley: "I'm hard on myself and I wasn't impressed with my performance whatsoever. I think I wasn't listening to my corner. If I was, I would have been a lot better in the fight. I really wanted to lay a lot of leather on Devon and I think I was trying to hit him too hard instead of letting my hands fly naturally, but I dominated the fight from the opening bell. I let him feel the storm and I feel that he didn't like it. I just kept pressing the action wanting to make a great fight, but I wasn't able to do that. Devon was very defensive. He threw shots in flurries that weren't effective at all. I ducked tons of them, that's pretty much it, I feel like he didn't want to be there inside with me at all."
GL: You mentioned letting your hands go more naturally. Do you really think it was how you were loading up or the tension of fighting at such high intensity against another talented boxer?
TB: "It was probably a combination of both. I think it was a lot of tension and I know I was loading up for a big shot. If I would have thrown the right hand straight down the pike and really followed up with combo's I would have hit him with a lot more."
GL: How do you feel about the fight ending prior to the championship rounds?
TB: "Those are the rounds I really wanted to turn it up and get busier in. My corner was asking me to get busier sooner and I was like not yet, I was really going to put it to him in those last three rounds. I wanted to step the game up and put the combinations together when I felt like I had broken him down enough. As far as the outcome of the fight, I don't like all of this head-butting and crazy crap some people are talking about."
GL: (cutting in) Why do you think it is so many of your opponents get cut from butts?
TB: "I think it has a lot to do with my style and the fact that I am aggressive and I'm not too cautious. I'm not in there thinking about a head butt. I don't go in there thinking I'm not going to throw this combination because of a head butt. I think also these guys want to lean towards me and grab me when I get on the inside. Like I said, I'm aggressive and I let my hands go, I try to land body shots and sometimes these guys they try to get lower with their bodies and bring their heads into mine."
GL: I don't expect the rematch to be your next fight. What are you hoping is next?
TB: "I got to sit down and talk to Cam and talk to my promoters and see what's happening. Obviously the buzz is Amir Khan, but honestly I don't think Amir Khan wants to fight me right now. Until I see a contract I won't believe it."
GL: Would you be willing to fight him in the UK?
TB: "It's all about dollars and cents. If it doesn't make sense for me, I won't go, but if it does I'll fight him anywhere. The bigger fish are who I'm looking for and if I can't get the bigger fish, I definitely want to see if I can get into the ring with Amir Khan. I'm a three time world champion now. My last three opponents have been undefeated and I'm fighting the best out there and I will continue to do my thing. Everybody knows I'm the top fighter at 140 lbs right now."
GL: You're next HBO fight has to take place by the end of July or something like that, correct?
TB: "I believe that's the date for me in the contract."
GL: How many stitches did you need?
TB: "Seven. Four on the top and three on the bottom. Other than that, I looked at the fight last night and I was very disappointed. If I was disappointed, I know the fans are because I was the one in there fighting. As far as a rematch goes, I don't think they're going to want it. It's going to be the same outcome, probably worse. I know this kid doesn't have the power to hurt me and I would just step to him from the opening bell and just maul this kid. I honestly expected more out of Devon. I thought he would be tougher."
GL: So he wasn't the best you've been in with?
TB: "Absolutely not. It was a joke to me. I was literally laughing in the ring because I was like, is this the best in the world? You got to be kidding me. The kid didn't want to fight. I was like this kid is scared. Every single time I got close he would grab me. That's their game plan? To throw combinations and move around and hold me when I get close. It wasn't my toughest fight. He has an awkward style, especially being a lefty. But it was fairly easy, I'll tell you that."
GL: Closing thoughts for the fans?
TB: "I want to thank the fans for their love and support. Continue to watch me on my quest to become the best fighter in the world. I want to thank you and ********** for always putting me out there.
