Comments Thread For: Guerrero: Juan Manuel Marquez Wants No Part of Me!

On Friday, January 28, 2011, Golden Boy Promotions flew out former three-time world champion, Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (28-1-1, 18 KO's), to discuss his future with the company. The potential April 9th bout between future Hall of Famers, Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales is not officially signed, so Guerrero has made clear to GBP that he'd be willing to step in and fight either one.

JMM just faced a mandatory in Katsidis, I can't blame him for going after a fight he has wanted for more than a decade, which is Morales. Guerrero is a good fighter, and I believe JMM will meet his mandatory obligation again if nothing interesting is on the horizon at 140 lbs or above.

Guerrero is simply doing what he can to get a good fight with either morales or marquez.

Guerrero was in negotiations to face Katsidis earlier last year with the winner being the front runner to face Marquez, but he pulled out in order to deal with his wife's illness. Now I can understand why he made that decision, but he's not in a position to claim that he's being ducked now. Btw, a couple of weeks ago he was also in negotiations to face Katsidis this March, but Katsidis canceled due to the Australian floods. It sounds like Guerrero is frustrated more than anything.

JMM is not a duck, that's for sure.

Guerrero's had a lot fo setback in his young life, he's gotta be pissed.

He should be aiming for a fight he would be more likely to land, like the winner of Acosta/Rios, or Antillion, or even wait for Kats. JMM is big game hunting and The Ghost is far from big game.

guerrero is probably the least interesting fight at 135 for JMM. to be honest, i'm not even interested in seeing guerrero on HBO/ppv period.
