prime v prime if they were of comparable height, Tyson KO in 6 or less. But from the older fights I've seen of Tyson against taller fighters, I'm more inclined to think that if Tyson couldn't land early/heavy/often, then Wlad scores a decision a la the first Sam Peter fight.

Prime Tyson vs Prime Wlad - Who wins?

You need to stop living in a bubble and get your facts straight:
- Prime Mike Tyson (217 lbs) would be bottom 10 LIGHTEST opponent Wlad has ever faced and bottom-3 lightest Vitali has ever faced.
- Prime Mike Tyson was KOed by featherfisty Buster Douglas
- Prime Mike Tyson is not comparable to a tall southpaw like Corrie Sanders
- Mike Tyson could not KO the following guys, let's see what they have in common with Wlad:
Donnovan Ruddock: As heavy as Wlad
Mitch Green: > 6'3''
James Smith: > 6'3''
Tony Tucker: > 6'3''
James Buster Douglas: > 6'3''
Lennox Lewis: > 6'3''
Kevin McBride: > 6'3''
Hmm, noticing something? In fact in his entire career Tyson has not KOed any non-bum > 6'3'', except Lou Savarese who came from a 1-year-layoff after a loss. Already with the taller not-so-good-opposition Tyson had massive problems. - Wlad would be the tallest non-bum Tyson ever faced
Now, let's compare Tyson's and Wlad's KOperformance.
There is one peculiarity that you should know before we do that: Mike Tyson ducked every southpaw of his time (as did Lennox), whereas Wlad Klitschko is the heavyweight world champion WITH THE MOST southpaws of all time. But southpaws are very difficult to fight (Tony Thompson late KO, Ibragimov no KO, Chris Byrd no KO, Sanders loss).
Thus to make a non-discriminatory comparison I compare here only the fights against orthodox fighters otherwise Tyson, the southpaw ducker, would have an unfair advantage. I also excluded NCs and WDQs and fights stopped due to headbutts.

On my website I compare Wladimir Klitschko to ATGs and other KOkings (in sortable tables) and you have to get this finally in your head:
Wladimir Klitschko is the best KOer who ever lived. Nobody comes close. Always remember this when you speculate about "Wladimir Klitschko vs XXX". In other words: You can replace "Mike Tyson vs Wlad" by "Mike Tyson vs the best KOer who ever lived"
Oh, and everybody who posted "Mike within 1 round" should get his brain scanned.Last edited by hweightblogger; 02-24-2011, 06:18 AM.

Wlad would get knocked down in the first round, maybe knocked out. If he made it to the second he would definately get KO'ed there.
And I'm a semi-fan of Wlad. I hate Mike as a person. ****in' lowlife. But he sure could box.

wlad's a rough match for tyson in terms of the shape of the fight
quick tillis took tyson the distance with movement and a good jab
and wlad klitschko is no quick tillis
to be fair tyson was still a boy and it was only his second year as a professional
but much of his best years were during the boy speed / pre manstrength years
all that being said:
wlad's been stopped by lesser fighter's than mike tyson
he doesnt fight like a guy with a good chin.
he's a potent offensive fighter (emanuel steward says he's the hardest puncher he's ever worked with)
but he doesn't really pour it on and it makes you wonder why
this tells us one of two things
1. he's not confident of his conditioning (see the first brewster fight)
2. his chin is not spectacular. (if his chin was better we might see him being more offensive.)
i'm thinking it's his chin
he's learned to be economical
he's got all the tools to become a tall boxer puncher who applies pressure and works behind the jab... if you have a right hand that big wlad, why the hell don't you use it?... you're a damn heavyweight, you need confidence in your power.
he doesnt apply pressure until he has a man almost out of there.
Tyson via kayo early. i'd make him a 3 or 4 to one favorite
wlad doesnt have the chin of a holyfield, lewis
if wlad were to be able to survive early he'd be doing something unexpected for most of us apparently
but the later it went the better it would be for him.Last edited by New England; 02-24-2011, 09:32 AM.

No, Wlad is not the greatest "KOer" of all time because the competition he has fought has been ****. RESUME is all that matters in boxing, it's WHO you beat not how many you've beaten or how good Ko% you have, all that is meaningless unless you haven't fought good competition.
If stats is all that matters then I assume you think Edwin Valero is the GOAT? He must be right, since he has a 100% KO ratio and was undeafeted?

Also Sanders weighed 225 for his fight with Wlad. One of his leanest weights ever except when he was younger, vs. 235 against Vitali.
I laugh when people use that to try and make his victory look better. Oh the guy was a part time boxer. Yeah right.
Wlad was beat fair and square by a boxer who wasn't expected to beat him.

well, I think the boxing adage holds true for this fight.
Styles make fights. Vlad's a superior boxer with a heavy and accurate jab, and good footwork. Every time Tyson faced a motivated fighter with boxing skill, ring generalship, and who could frustrate him, he lost.
I have it as a close fight, with Vlad having a 60/40 advantage. Just jab the living hell out of Mike, get out of his way, clinch him, headbutt him a little bit, and you can cruise after 5 or 6 rounds (if you survive, of course).
Mike has a puncher's chance against superior boxers. It's just the way the game goes, gentlemen.
