Comments Thread For: Team McCloskey: Khan Fight is Dead! Offer Was a Joke!

According to a report in the Derry Journal, a proposed fight between WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan, and undefeated British champion Paul McCloskey, is a dead issue. McCloskey's promoter Barry Hearn told the paper that Khan's financial offer for a main event showdown on an April 16 pay-per-view - "was a joke." Hearn would not reveal the number, but he says the offer is so low that no credible boxer would possibly accept it.

If Khan doesn't make the Prescott fight now, he's clearly shook.

How much has McCloskey made from his last couple of fights?

Prescott is wide open now, just sign it. Prescott said he wouldnt price himself out so go ahead Khan, get revenge, but dont go in there and get laid out again by him, that would really suck lol

dunno, but he's sold out 1000s of seats as a headliner and had money from rte or sky. Less than he woulda made from Khan, but not peanuts either.

But none of those fights were a ppv world title fight, of course he's gonna be looking for more money for that.

U gotta look at it as a % of the overall pot though. 80-20 would be fair. If he's looking to become a millionaire then fair enough to turn it down, if Khans offering him a 100k when Khan stands to make a million or 2 then that offer is a joke. We need to know what numbers were being touted by both parties to know whats going on

Not neccesarily. Prescott has lost a couple of times and fallen completely off the radar. The Khan fight represents his only possibility of getting a payday. So naturally hes gonna ask for a substantial amount.

McCloskey keeps his Euro title even if he loses to Khan, so hes looking for a payday too.

Petersen is coming off a loss and a draw. So hes got nowhere to go either.
