Comments Thread For: Marquez's Options: Morales, Khan, Guerrero, Maidana

WBO/WBA lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5, 38KOs) has a lot of options on the table. The three division champion is scheduled to sit down with Golden Boy Promotions in the next few days to discuss his next fight, which is tentative for April 9 in Las Vegas.

I've been calling for Khan to fight a counter-puncher like Peterson in order to aid in his development.

Scrap Peterson. Marquez is an elite fighter with ridiculous skills. Past-prime yes but he's certainly the best Lightweight around, top-5 pound-for-pound and poses a real threat to any Light-Welterweight, including Khan.

Khan-Marquez would be great in the UK. I'd definitely go to it.

Marquez is smaller, 5'7" I think, but still has some speed, power and he's accurate and has a good defense. Khan certainly has the speed, size and power advantage but JMM has the superior skills, intelligence, experience and chin.

I think the youthful Khan edges JMM out in a FotY candidate. Close UD for Khan. I think JMM gets knocked down at some point in the fight too. Khan will definitely get hurt at some point too, JMM will definitely land clean at times during the fight, I don't think he'd finish Khan off though.

7 rounds to 5 for Khan.

I would love to see Marquez fight any of these guys. They all would make for great fights.

I dont think either Roach or Goldenboy want a FOTY candidate if Khan is to fight Bradley-Alex a few months later. Hence the Peterson choice.

Marquez is an idiot. He pretends if he wants Khan or Pacquiao but truth is he was finding his way to duck both of them and he already did.

                  Exactly.

Besides the Mayweather fight, Marquez's fights always surpass expectations.

People talk about how Khan took a lot of punishment in his fight with Maidana and it's "taken a bit out of him".

Bull**** imo. He got badly hurt in the 10th, yes. He came back a bit in the 11th after getting his legs back, wasn't badly hurt in that round. Then got hurt again in the 12th, albeit not as badly as in the 10th.

So he took punishment for a max 3 rounds.

Roach and GBP need not worry. Maidana was a nightmare match-up for Khan (heavy-handed, pressure fighter, good chin, great heart). I might get shot for saying this but JMM is an easier fight imo. JMM has a good chin and great heart like Maidana but he's smaller and Khan is certainly faster. JMM isn't as powerful as Maidana. But he's more accurate. Khan would use his jab more against JMM too, he could outbox JMM from the outside if he wanted too.

A fight against JMM won't damage Khan like the Maidana fight did, he won't get as badly hurt. Beating JMM is only going to raise his profile and potentially make him a P4P top-10 fighter. Khan should be testing himself against the very best. Bradley is fighting Alexander, why shouldn't Khan take on a top-class opponent too?
