Why is HBO starting a war with top rank?

Bob Arum is pissed off cus they didnt wanna buy the March 12 fight w/ Cotto, instead they said they want that date for Sergio Martinez. I understand Sergio who is the hotter fighter but cmon Cotto has been w Hbo his whole carreer. They cant just push Martinez to the 19th?..Cotto has given them great ratings through out the years, so now Bob said he will put Cottos fight on PPV and go against HBO that night! this FKN sucks for Boxing

    Both will suffer from this

They need eachother equally but i think this is a one time thing and this "war" will work itself out

Im just suprised they would shun cotto after he gave them the highest rating of the year

I actually praise HBO for not buying the bullshit ass fight with Mayorga.

But to be fair, Cotto deserves to be on HBO way more than Berto. Berto gets away with way too much bullshit.

The fight that was offered was with Vanes Martyrosan..for 1.5 million which i hear is a bargain for a cotto fight.

HBO wanted Cotto to face Angulo, then Cintron, then Martinez. Uncle Bob turned down all those fights, because he wants to protect Cotto until he can cash in on the Cotto/Margarito II PPV.

Bob thought he could just turn down all these solid fight offers from HBO, then offer them a Cotto vs Bum fight and automatically get the date he wanted.

HBO is standing up to him. This is bad for Bob Arum and good for Boxing.

I don't know if it is starting a war per say.

Montiel-Donaire is schedule to be on HBO. So we'll see.

I was very critical of HBO choosing Martinez vs TBA instead of Cotto-Vanes. I was more critical that they didn't think of maybe hosting both fights from different venues.

However, if HBO is going to go the route of Showtime as great fights, no rights across the board. Then I'm all for it. Martinez-Dzinziruk>Cotto-Vanes.

And, yea Martinez could have possibly move to the 19 or the 5th. But, the same could be said for Cotto.

All and in all the should of see if they could of somehow work out in making a double header.

Either way I don't think HBO would of paid for Cotto vs Mayorga.

I think Vanes would of been a decent matchup and a good win for Cotto regardless.

I dont think Cotto vs VAnes is a bum fight, thats the fight Bob offered HBO originally.

The thing that displeases me the most about this is having the two cards on the same day on diff networks competing. Its bad for the sport.
