Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has already explained the reasons on why Juan Manuel Marquez was overlooked for an opportunity to fight Manny Pacquiao on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Arum says Golden Boy Promotions, on behalf of Marquez - "overpriced" the Mexican boxer. According to a source with knowledge of Marquez's demands, the three-division champion had asked for a $5 million guarantee, while making $5 per pay-per-view buy above 500,000, for $8.5 million total if the fight generated 1.2 million buys.

That fight doesn't make much sense. Marquez has earned his shot to Pacquiao fight. Berto should rather try to build up his name to be the next name after Pacquiao/Mosley. There is Cotto out there for Berto, but it seems to me that Miguel doesn't want this fight. And I guess Berto wouldn't like fighting Clottey, because to beat Clottey effectively he would needed to throw more than 1k punches like Pac and Margarito. Berto can't hurt Clottey, also Andre can't fight at the ropes very well. Maybe Andre can try Cintron or Angulo, I can't name other boxers who can help better to build up his name. Judah is familiar to US fans, but Zab as I think wanna get IBF belt and land on big fights against top dogs in jr.welterweight.

Marquez vs Pacquiao in my assumptions will make around 1 million buys, I don't think that numbers will be as high as 1.2 million. Since Marquez wants $5 for every PPV buy over 500,000 , then he will be receiving $5.0 million + $2.5 million = $ 7.5 million for 1 million buys. Arum can easily pay this money to Marquez, Margarito and Clottey had similar paydays. In my opinion this was just tactical move by Bob, it was like slapping GBP in the face. If Mosley wins, Arum can organize rematch with Pac or Mosley-Cotto II. If Mosley loses Arum can still recycle Mosley. But for Marquez fight even JMM loses, it will help him make his name more recognizable in US. Then GBP can better sell his fights with Soto, Acosta etc.

Bob Arum only cares about money. If it comes to choosing between Clottey and Berto, Bob will always pick Clottey, because it's in house fight. Arum may choose Marquez next, cos he will be promoting that fight again himself alone. That's the reason Arum demanding more exposure from Berto.

i think Arum is just a blood sucker and making up excuses not to fight Berto i paid for the Cheatorito fight and was disappointed. i can tell you now i'm not ****** to pay for the mosley fight anyone that pays for this fight is ****** we all know how it's going to go down. mosley is too old it wouldn't last 8 rounds. pac-man should be fighting Berto or Marquez this is horse SH$%%.
