Comments Thread For: Koki Kameda-Alexander Munoz: Pre-Fight Report Card

    Let’s call it epilogue 2010.

Last weekend felt like the end of the boxing year but was not. There were still a few fights remaining. This Sunday, for an absurdly vacant WBA Bantamweight belt (more on that soon), is by far the best of them. Two former champions, one aging with no room for error, the other arguably the sport’s biggest draw below Featherweight, will attempt to make a genuine place for themselves in boxing’s best division. The WBC clearly states that after 5 successful defenses, the champ is elevated to super champion. This reported needs to step his game up as this has been one if their rules for a while, so how is this a disgrace for this to be for a title shot?

Really this works for both parties as:

    1. It allows Moreno more time in between his mandatories, which is great for a fighter of Moreno's age.
    2. It means the winner will have to face Moreno, so it's not lime they are cheating him out of his title.
    3. Since Moreno has more time between mandatories, he can go off and face another top fighter instead of a bull**** defense.
    4. It automatically allows Kameda to be a player at BW, if he wins, and sets up other great matches at that weight class.

No offense but there is to much complaining now in days in boxing. I really don't get how this is a bad thing because worse case scenario....Moreno will expose Kameda if he is a fraud and not a deserving champ at BW.

Good article, this fight does not deserve to go under the radar.
Munoz' opposition after the loss to Mijares 2 years ago (which has also been the last fight of him that I saw) wasn't exactly impressive, so I am inclined to agree that Kameda wins this on decision. But a very good name for his resumé.

All valid points, but I believe the main criticism is with the existence of even more belts with all this super champ nonsense, and I agree with it. It does not make the sport of boxing very attractive or eye-catching to the general public and potential new fans if every division has a gazillion of World Champions, Super Champions, Platinum Champions, Mickey Mouse Champions, etc...

so Moreno is the super champ now? What a joke the WBA is, even the IBO is more credible at this stage.

The WBA shouldn't be considered as one of the top 4 belts anymore.

First off, if you are going to try to correct me, might want to call the WBA the WBA instead of the WBC.

Second, who cares if they've amended rules to attempt to validate their silliness. the point is that these are shallow titles, a way to make money and not recognize any actual merit. Neither Kameda or Munoz has done ANYTHING to merit a shot at 118 yet. I mean, Moreno JUST made a mando and took a forced immediate rematch.

                Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone.
