Pac might pick his next opponent but Arum will have a big influence and say on the next fight. Pac always said in every fight, "its up to mypromoter". Arum is gonna say to Pac that they can make more money fighting opponent A than opponent B.

On Cotto/Martinez negotiations: Not a smart move by Martinez's camp. Probably as smart as Angulo playing hardball with Martinez.

You have a solid offer. A chance to beat one of the top names in the game, in a fight Martinez would be favored to win. A victory over Cotto could eliminate one of Pacquiao's future options and insert Martinez as an option. A win over Cotto could also eliminate a Cotto/Margarito rematch and possibly set Martinez up with a rematch with Margarito.

"Bob Arum Is Ruining Boxing; Boycott Top Rank"

"Bob Arum Is Ruining Boxing; Boycott Top Rank"

                  2010 - Manny Pacquiao v Antonio Margarito

2010 - Kelly Pavlik v Julio Chavez Jr. (Fight was cancelled due to Pavlik's unfortunate addiction to alcohol, for which he is currently in treatment)

                  2010 - Miguel Cotto v Yuri Foreman

                  2009 - Miguel Cotto v Manny Pacquiao

                  2009 - Miguel Cotto v Joshua Clottey

                  2008 - Miguel Cotto v Antonio Margarito

                  2008 - Manny Pacquiao v Joshua Clottey

                  2008 - Miguel Cotto v Alfonso Gomez

                  2008 - Manny Pacquiao v David Diaz

1999 - Arum previously denies, but later admits (under oath) during a Federal racketeering trial that he bribed the International Boxing Federation President by paying him $100,000 in order to get the IBF to sanction a George Foreman fight.

1995 - Arum is penalized $125,000 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for a bribe to get one of his fighters a higher ranking

** It must be noted that the other promoters identified in the Federal sting were New Jersey based promoter Dino Duva, who admitted paying a $25,000 bribe, promoter Cedric Kushner admitted paying $100,000 in bribes and Promoter Don King who was on video tape "regularly" paying for rankings for his fighters.

As the former Harvard Law Student and Federal prosecutor would do in trying to make a case, I am trying to establish a pattern. The pattern is that Bob Arum has been and continues to keep his fighters fighting "in-house," as other promoters call him, "In-House Bob." Quite fitting I believe. The other is to establish the corrupt nature of the promoter, specifically for this article, Bob Arum.
Bob Arum takes 26% of Manny's and other fighters' purse and as long as Manny and other Top Rank fighters continue to fight Top Rank fighters, Bob will continue to take in upwards up 52% of the total fight purse.
While this may sound like good business to some of you, the fact that there are very good candidates in other promotional companies that would give Manny Pacquiao and other Top Rank belt holders a very good fight, and would actually display some lateral movement, probably scares old Bob.
I for one believe that Andre Berto should be the fighter who is next in line for Manny. (I obviously would like to see the fight that the rest of the world would like to see, but let's put that debate aside for now). However, after watching Berto's last performance, I'm sure Bob does not want to take that chance. This is the same reason that Bob recently turned down $5 million for a Sergio Martinez v Miguel Cotto match. Bob knows that Miguel would lose his WBA belt and would rather match him up with another Top Rank fighter so as to pad his pockets more and keep a belt-holder in the stable, regardless of the outcome. It's a win-win for Bob, but nothing but a losing scenario for fight fans. And now with Shane Mosley all but signed to Top Rank, maybe just for a Pacquiao fight, Manny will surely fight another Top Rank fighter.
The below is a recent quote from Bob regarding the backlash from fans and bloggers regarding a match-up between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley...

"I don't care. I don't care what the so-called boxing fans and bloggers have to say. I really don't."

You don't care? You don't care about the people that spend their hard-earned money, especially in these historically bad economic times? Who do you think pays to watch your fights?

The below quote is Bob's take on HBO and Showtime putting together fights on their own. (only because Arum proposed fights that neither company wanted to put up money for, I'm guessing they were all Top Rank fighters if I follow history)

"Instead of working with promoters, like they have done in the past, they have become promoters themselves. They make the fights just like promoters and pay fighters", Arum said. "It's their money and they can do what they want, but Don King doesn't have to go along with it and neither do I. King and I can get along without HBO or Showtime."

To which I say good luck you selfish prick.

Last but not least is my favorite Bob Arum quote...

"I was lying yesterday. Today I am telling the truth."

Bob Arum, YOU are what is ruining this sport. The prevention of the best fighters fighting the best opposition will continue to hinder the sport and prevent it from reaching it's potential as it has previously in decades past.
You are, and have been ruining the sport I love and kept me out of trouble as a youth. I truly believe that if it was not for the sport of boxing and my local PAL, I would not have graduated college with two degrees, much less graduated from High School. This is why I am so boisterous about this topic, because I see the problem with the sport that helped me and so many others through adolescence in **** neighborhoods, yet nothing seems to be done about it. So I am calling for a boycott of Top Rank Promotions. If we cannot have a single commission in charge, then we must weed out what is wrong with the sport and start with the promoters who refuse to "not care" what the people who pay them want.
The fighter is the only one on the ring taking the beating. There is no pension, no medical insurance and no one to give any legal advise. In fact, some promoters actually prohibit fighters from seeking outside, independent legal opinions. So again, if we cannot have a single commission, then we must weed out the corrupt promoter and start at the "Top."
                  Boycott Top Rank.
