Let Martinez fight someone else for 50% and see if it comes anywhere close to the 30% he would get against Miguel. Miguel may not have a great opponent out there but at this point in his career it doesn't matter. He is going to make at least 3 million versus any bum. So, why take a pay cut and a huge risk against Martinez? When Martinez proves he's worthy of big paydays by creating revenue at the gate and viewership, he can then demand top dollar.
Martinez has 2 or possibly 3 guaranteed HBO dates in 2011 at no less than $1M per fight, but could be up to $2M, so he's not obligated to take $2.5M from Cotto, just because it's Cotto.

Martinez would've taken this fight at the price offered anyway, it was Arum who sent the offer he knew would be insulting to Dibella because he didn't want the fight to take place in the first place.

martinez is not obliged to take 2.5 mill, but if he wants the fight badly, dibella could've atleast asked for $3-4 mill and let arum be sole promoter.

arum doesn't owe dibella or martinez anything.

dibella was the one who sent the outrageous offer in which he would be sole promoter and cotto would get a flat fee of $5 mill. that's ridiculous.

It's mindsets like yours that kill boxing all together. A good fighter should fight a good fighter. Money, promotional teams, **** riders and all the rest of that **** kills great fights. And you're obviously not a boxing fan if u think a guy who is somewhat on the shaky ground as far as his career deserved more than a guy who has clearly shown he is ready for great fights.

you gotta ask yourself then, why does a guy who has clearly shown he is ready for great fights want to fight someone on the shaky grounds as far as his career goes.

I will agree with you on that. I don't agree with him fighting Cotto either only as a last option but not a top priority. He should go for the elites guys at his weight class because honestly he is old and he won't be around much longer.
