    Rebuilding Paul Williams

After such a devastating KO loss, it's critical Williams makes the right decisions in order to rebound and climb his way back to the top.

For some guys it's best to get right back in the ring for others that can be disastrous (i.e, roy jones) and maybe it would be best to take 8 months to a year off from the sport, no head contact and just let your body rest much like what jermain taylor is doing now (although he should have done this after pavlik).

I think it's safe to say 160 pounds is too much for Williams and he'll likely return at 154 or maybe even 147.

If you were Williams, what would you do? What weight class should Williams fight at? How long should he wait to fight? Would you get a new trainer? Work on using your reach/height and try to add solid boxing techniques to your game or continue to be the head first brawler that fans love to watch? Or do you think it's too late, is Williams finished already?

Its too late, Williams is finished already.

His best bet is to try to keep making 47' which will only hurt him considering he rehydrated to 68' on Saturday.

Take some joke fights at 47' against much smaller guys, hope your size is too much for them and fool some gullible fans into thinking "you're back".

But the minute he moves up against anyone at 54' or 60' he'll get lit up. Not only cuz' he sucks, but because his chin is beyond cracked. ***y and Cintron cracked it in their fights and then ***y shattered it in the rematch.

He should take time off. Come back and fight at 154. Maybe he can get a fight with Miguel Cotto. It's just hard getting big name fights when you're not in TR or GBP, especially after losing like that.

147lbs is too low and 160lbs seems to be too high. He should try to settle in 154lbs.

As for who to fight, I think one or two journeymen to rebuild his confidence and get him back in the groove, then Miguel Cotto who is also damaged and near the end of his career.

IMO Pwill needs a little time off to think things over for himself.

Then the task of his choices ranging from WW to MW options, the latter might fit him better, and there's also the 154 div option, which would prolly fit him with the level of comp there.

Although I think that division's pretty tight too (154) and we don't know what will become of another returnee, James Kirkland.

He also needs to think over his style overall, as of his late fights he seemed susceptible to hits, which came to an unfortunate end with Martinez.

I would change trainer, I respect Peterson hes done alot for Williams so I wouldn't want to exclude him completely he seems to be an excellent conditioning coach.

A trainer that knows how to use height which would be Emmanuel Steward, I think if Steward could turn him into a tall fighter then he would be excellent. I also think Williams can still take a punch, his punch resistance might have eroded a bit but in the first round Martinez was landing bombs, it just so happened Martinez landed a perfect punch.

I would match him up against guys that were fairly soft so he adjusts his style since he's not THAT old. Fighters like Bundrage, Ouma, Latimore guys with a name but no huge threat. Stick him at 154.

                Stay at 154. Take K9 Bundrage's title.

His style is okay, he just needs to rid himself of the slow jab he frequently throws out there, stop throwing that front foot way out there, stooping down, and reaching for opponents (it doesn't improve his range, it only puts him in his opponents range), and stop those whipping hooks.

Needs to learn how to properly use range to his advantage.

He should take a tune up over an easy opponent and then I'd like too see him settle at 154 and fight Joshua Clottey, which he would spank all over the ring ALL night easy win for Pwill. Or fight Bundrage or Dzinziruk and get a title.

Paul Williams career is far from over. People are who say's he is a bum or should retire are seriously ******s who should **** off. A knockout loss isn't the end... 20 years ago or even just 10 years ago people would LAUGH at all these people who says a guy should retire after a knockout loss... Terry Norris got stopped in the 2nd round against Julian Jackson in his first title shot, and Jackson got stopped in the 2nd round against McCallum in HIS first title shot.

                    1. Your right....take some time off. Dude is only 28 so he can afford to do it. It's amazing what a 1 can do to a fighter that has taken some damage.

                    2. Once back, avoid punchers for a while. People complain about cherry picking but it's about being smart. I would hate to see his team make poor decision similar to Jermaine Taylor, and have him getting knocked out back to back.

                    3. Return to 154 and forget the pipe dreams of 147. At 154 he will have several options...non of which are big punchers. Guys like Dzinzurik, Lara (underated), Martirosyan, Cotto, and Chavez jr are all good options. I would wait a while to face Angulo, but him along with Kirland would be good fights as well.
