Following his appearance in an episode of the HBO Pacquiao vs Margarito 24/7 documentary, Rashad Holloway talks in some depth with Leave It In The Ring about the almost career-ending injury he sustained during a sparring session with Antonio Margarito. In a level of detail that wasn't possible during the 24/7 documentary due to understandable time restraints, Holloway describes how the whole ordeal effected his life as a person inside and outside the ring. At one point Holloway was actually told that his career was over.
Some time after the injury occured, Margarito was caught trying to cheat with loaded gloves against Shane Mosley. The pieces of the puzzle surrounding Holloway's injury started to fall into place. Prior to the sparring session with Margarito, Holloway had been hit numerous times in the ring with no lingering effects at all. Initially, he couldn't understand how the session with Margarito could lead to such a devastating injury but, after the loaded gloves scandal came to light, Holloway learned that Margarito's gloves were occasionally loaded during his sparring sessions. Holloway's career was almost called to a close because a boxer used loaded gloves against him in sparring.
To this day, Holloway's vision is effected and he will likely have a degree of double vision for the rest of his life. Thankfully, the double vision only happens when he holds his head at particular angles so effectively he's able to resume his career as a boxer, for the time being..
