D.Fischer: "Garcia really did his homework in studying Pac and it's showing in Tony"

    By Doug Fischer

On Saturday, I saw him step forward with his jab and occasionally foot feint before advancing. He kept his hands up, elbows in and he tucked his chin well. In the sparring I watched, Margarito did a decent job of blocking punches (and no, I'm not talking about with his face), he even practiced slipping shots.

Garcia’s got Margarito doing things designed to take away Pacquiao’s jab and to make the shorter man reach in with his left. It looks like Garcia has done his homework on Pacquiao’s various attack maneuvers and he’s trying his best to have Margarito ready to counter them. I’d say at least 75 percent of the punches he threw during the eight-round mitt session I watched were body shots.

I don’t think it’s any secret that Garcia wants his fighter to hurt Pacquiao to the body before he has Margarito attempt to back the smaller man to the ropes.

tonys gonna do something no recent fighter has been sucessful at...work mannys body,no other fighter has been ableto match mannys workrate..tonys slower but maybe just maybe if he works his jab and keeps manny on the end of it(mannys not hard to hit) we may be in for a surprise

Correction: Tony will try to work Manny to the body, every fighter trys but never does it.

I highly doubt he will be jabbing him all night, because his style is to break fighters down, not box then so jabs wont work for him that much

if hes slow he'll mostly likely miss. i see pacquiao turning margarito around all night so he cant plant and attack with effect. and this bull**** hes slipping punches now, he wont slip pacs punches. this guy is gtting old now idk why fischer making it seem like hes going to improve and look better. lol. this fight is a mis match.

he doesnt have to hide behind the jab..just set up his combos with his jab..you can brawl intelligantly by using your jab to hide you other punches.. a jab followed by a right to the body followed by a left uppercut would work wonders

true..i know mannys game plan will be to try to turn tony all night and we all know tony aint gonna be slippin mannys punches all night,..mannys to damn fast..but this fight does have a few things that can make it interesting...if tony appies alot of pressue(effective pressure that is) and cuts the ring off well manny wont be able to turn him at all

Shane Mosley already showed you can walk Margarito back. Manny has maybe the strongest legs in boxing. If Mosley can walk Margarito back, Manny can walk him back.

Margarito is arguably one of the best if not THE best inside fighters we have seen at Welterweight. No other fighter can go toe to toe with Tony to the body and come out on top. Other fighters claim to have what it takes to go for the body but none can be as effective on the inside as Tony can, his track record speaks for itself.

I'm sure Garcia has done all the math; now He has to give to formula to some one who is able to add.

How do you turn a man who is physically bigger and taller than you for 12 hard fought rounds?? it might work for half of the fight, we know Pac has crazy stamina but if Tony puts the work in early like he did against Cotto, Manny is not gonna have that kind of control past the 7th or 8th round, specially at the speed rate Pac works at. No way in hell.
