Excellent point, HBO had set Hamed up to be a real cash cow and he bolts after 1 big fight. Can you imagine the lobbying that must have gone on to get Hamed back into the ring after the investment that HBO had made towards him?

I think some posters here at boxingscene could have helped out HBO in their efforts to get Naz back into the ring, maybe all Naz needed was an ego boost from his faithful...

They could have told him things like, "your the best Prince, if you take Augie's punch who's cant you take?" "Hey Prince after beating Medina and Ingle Morales and Marquez will be sparring matches." "dont sweat the MAB fight NAz, you werent yourself, you couldnt even flip into the ring like you normally do"...all of these faithful Naz fans could have played their part in getting the Prince back into the ring simply by stroking his ****.

You should have been Naz's manager though, you have a lot of confidence in him, Naz obviously had no confidence and could have used you!

He bitched out which is the only thing that stopped him from from going on to become one of the greats at his weight IMO. Even if your reasoning on another thread was true, that he didn't believe he could beat MAB, it's still perfectly possible to have continued a good career without rematching him. He had obviously lost all motivation for the sport by that time.

He was a unique and exceptional fighter who just didn't fulfil his potentional for greatness.
          Thats very true mate.

Haha, maybe I should have been

I was a big fan at the time even though I thought he was a total ****.

It just grates with me a bit when people dismiss him based on 1 fight. If they'd take the time to watch him at his best like in the Johnson and Robinson fights they'd know what I was talking about. The guy had real talent, he wasn't always the stationary, off-balance, single shot merchant that he was in the Barrera fight.

Frank I dont think people necessarily dismiss him for 1 fight I think it is Naz himself who dismessed himself after 1 fight...right?

He did in a way I suppose, but it's not like Barrera only beats bad fighters. The amount of **** he gets is down to himself too. If he hadn't run his mouth off so much people would probably have been a bit more sympathetic and respectful of his achievements.

Donald Curry...for a few years, was the best fighter I've ever see.
He foght often, & beat excellent opposition in incredibly impressive fashion. But, he never lived up to his potential, & never fought back from true adversity or struggle.
I don't rate him as a "great" fighter.

He was better & more accomplished than Prince Naseem Hamed ever was. So, don't ever call Hamed a great fighter, as he's not even close.

Brendan Ingle didn't help much, either.
I laughed when Ingle stated that hamed would "become WELTERWEIGHT champion" someday.
You read that kind of **** & you can't wait for some to be brought down to earth.
