Yeah, I remember Barrera being 15. I do think there are age limits in certain countries. Pacquiao was 16, but faked his age and signed himself up as 18 to fight pro.

Wow, I can't picture a 9 yr old fighting a 29 yr old. That would be like a Father beating down his son.

What I'm sure is that Wifredo "The Radar" Benitez is the youngest World Champion. He won his title from Pambele at the age of 17.

Just to help jog my memory a bit more, I checked boxrec if they have anything on Daly. They do. The link is below. Please take note of the Date of Birth as well as his first fight.

In the same era as Daly's, Jimmy McLarnin, reportedly took up boxing at age 10. But, while an amateur, he was said to have had a number of fights for purses, leading some to argue that he actually turned pro somewhere at 10 or 11. But extant records show that his first pro fight was on his 16th birthday in 1923. He was born in Dec. 19, 1907.

Filipino fiight fans remember him as Pacho Villa's last fight; others, for his being the original "Baby Faced Assassin"; and most, for his Hall of Fame career.

I don't know how old George Brown was at the time, but Nipper Pat was his third fight and the last recorded of his career. He never won, per his record.

It has been likewise reported that Nipper Pat fought again the following day and won against Sid Raiteri. I also don't know how old Raiteri was at the time.Their meeting was Ratieri's first recorded pro fight, Daly's second.

If anyone's interested, there's a book out now on Nipper Pat Daly's life and ring career.
              • You can read the introduction and first chapter for free here:

              nipperpatdaly.co.uk/nipperbooksample.pdf

              • Or find out more about the book (or buy a copy) here:

              Book synopsis

They called him brilliant - the greatest since Driscoll and Wilde; an assured future world champion and a potential all-time great. Nipper Pat Daly, who made his professional debut aged just nine, was a boxing prodigy so precociously gifted that he beat the cream of Europe's boxing talent while still in his mid-teens.

Fans across Britain clamoured to see him fight and sat agog at his uncanny skill, dazzling speed and boundless courage. He topped bills nationwide week-in and week-out, conceding age and strength to full-grown men yet outclassing everyone put before him. By 16 he had beaten several champions, was ranked in the world's top 10 and seemed on the brink of a world title. But incredibly, at 17 he reluctantly retired from the sport he loved, leaving sportswriters and fans to ponder just how great he would have been if he had reached his full potential.

Diligently researched and retold in vivid style, this book resurrects the career and life of one of boxing's most amazing performers, piecing together his unique career in order to understand how such a great talent could vanish so suddenly. Taking us on a journey through a lost world of smoky fight halls, colourful characters and courageous men, this is the story of an incredible boxer and his incredible times.

If the report is accurate, that makes him weeks short of 10 years old. He was a Featherweight and had close to a hundred wins with just about a dozen losses.

Georges Carpentier reportedly had his pro debut at 14. Three time world champ Manuel Medina, aka Mantecas, also was 14 when he had his first pro fight.

Edit: Add: Battling Nelson was said to be 14 when he debuted as a pro.
