Name a fight in which you rooted for the fighter of another country/ethnicity over your own.. And Why? Or if you've never done this, explain why. Just curious, because generally speaking it's a fight fans first instinct to back their own country. Lets have it!

I backed Hatton over Mayweather. Being from US, I still backed the Manchester fighter b/c Hatton was charimsatic and fighter whom I found more entertaining.

It's a good question, the only example that came close to your question was Cotto vs Marg. As a result of the whole wrap scandal, I found a re-newed appreciation for Cotto AND his work during that fight. I watch that fight time and time again, and realized he truly is a great fighter. Despite the effects of that event, Cotto would be the person I root for in the future regardless of the opponent's ethnicity.

Sadly as a Guatemalan I had never had this problem.

Well... I was born in the U.S so technically I am an American and I always rooted for Tito to beat every American he faced. Not just American but rooted for him to beat every fighter he ever faced no matter what country.

I dont even pay attention to that junk. Being of Slovene descent I've warmed a little to Jan Zavec, but I don't really care what country or ethnicity my favorite fighters are.

My favorite fighters are Sergio Martinez, Eric Morales, Roy Jones Jr, Manny Pacquiao, Naseem Hamed, Rafa Marquez, and Floyd Mayweather.

Ill root for any of the non-American guys against Americans without a second thought.

Tito over DLH - wasn't pleased with DLH not giving rematches to fighters who gave him close calls or should have gotten the nod against him, notably, Pea and Quartey.

Darchinyan over Mijares - Mijares was getting a lil overhyped and wasn't really feeling it.

Pacquiao over Barerra II - Some idiot wanted to bet that Barerra would whoop his ass, so I gladly took his money.

trinidad over oscar. i just don't like oscar, he seem phony to me. And I was tireed of him getting gift decisions. The Quartey and whitaker fights made me really not like him.

I'm English, rooted for Ruiz v Haye, Valuev v Haye (don't like Haye if you didn't guess) Roy v Calzaghe (Mum's Welsh) Cotto v Jennings, Cloud over Woods... When you live in a ****ty country with little sense of national pride you tend to be disloyal. Technically i was born in Germany, but i always rooted against Otke and i dislike Huck severely. Molitor over Booth is the most recent example.
