Wlad Klitschko accepts Sam Peter's challenge

I saw this on the front page and didn't see a thread in here about it:

If Samuel Peter is looking for a fight, Wladimir Klitschko is ready and willing to oblige him.

“Peter has challenged me to a fight,?the former World Boxing Organization heavyweight champion and 1996 Olympic Games gold medalist said. “Well, I wholeheartedly accept the challenge. Let’s do it. I am ready. The question is, is Samuel Peter ready?

“Peter can talk the talk, but now it is time to walk the walk.’’

Two days ago Klitschko’s promotional company, K2, made an offer to Duva Boxing, the undefeated Nigerian’s promoter, to fight Sept. 24 on HBO.

“The offer was for more money than Peter has ever earned for a fight in his career,?Bernd Boente, Personal Manager Klitschko Brothers, said. “We told Peter’s people that they could decide if they wanted the fight to take place in either the United States or Germany, where Peter would even earn more money.’’

Added Klitschko: “It doesn’t matter to me where it takes place. I want the fight. HBO loves the matchup. So now it is up to Samuel Peter.

“Peter says the moment of truth has arrived. I don’t believe Samuel Peter can handle the truth. If I am wrong, then we can fight.?br />

The winner of the 12-round bout would take over the No. 1 spot in the International Boxing Federation and become the mandatory challenger for the winner of the Chris Byrd-DaVarryl Williamson heavyweight title bout. Klitschko (44-3, 40 KOs) and Peter (24-0, 21 KOs) are the current IBF No. 4 and No. 5 contenders, respectively.

Awesome, first Peter knocks out Wlad, and then he rids the boxing world of Chris "I fight once a year" Byrd. Great news.

Wlad would crush peter. Sam is far too slow to be trying to fight a skilled, fast, big puncher. His only shot would be to land something big....and I highly doubt he can do that. I think Wlad stops him in 4 rounds based on the difference in skill level alone.

i don't think that will be the case at all. i think wlad will give him a boxing lesson if he is on his game.

It would be Mercer v.s. Wlad all over again. A slow plodder who can only punch.....against an elite, skilled, veteran fighter. Except....the opposite in Peter being the young gun.

I see this fight as being 50/50.

Wlad seemed very Gun Shy agaisnt Williamson in his last major fight (that Castillo Cruiser couldn't have hurt a flea).

In with a bigger puncher, Wlad will be at risk in the first few rounds.

I think Peter will storm across the ring and come at Wlad right away.

If Wlad survives the first few rounds, the fight tips in his favor.

I think this is a pickem fight.

mercer had a lot more than that in his prime though, as lennox lewis and evander holyfield will testify to.

.....At least it appears that Wlad is willing to step in with a big puncher right now. People can't accuse him of having no balls if this is true.

Peter would no doubt try and exploit Wlad in the early part of the fight. What I saw in his last outing against Castillo...was a tendency to move his feet, and box from the outside unlike he has done in the past. The fight remains dangerous the entire time, but like you say he survives the first rounds and would give peter trouble.

Thing about it is this: In the Mercer fight....which is really a good comparison IMO, is that Mercer was absorbing some serious punishment that did not allow him to get off as easily as one would have thought. Wlad's left hand is ridiculous, because he can double up on the jab....then throw three left hooks right afterwards.

Peter is a ruthless finisher, but he needs to catch Wlad flush on the chin in order to get him in trouble. Williamson is no slouch in the punching department, and has faster hands than Peter IMO.....that allowed him to land those bombs on Wlad. Also keep in mind he stood in front of Williamson....trying to prove a point.

I Actually think the fight would be highly entertaining, But having said that: A huge step up compared to Peter's previous level of opposition.

I want to see Peter.....or someone else for that matter knockout the overrated big brother of the heavyweight real deal.
