Comments Thread For: Photos/Quotes: Dmitry Pirog Presser From Moscow

Almost immediately after his brilliant win over Daniel Jacobs this past Saturday a newly crowned WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (17-0, 14 KOs) packed his luggage and flew to Moscow, Russia. Yesterday a specifically designed presser was held at a conference hall of D-Hotel to greet Russia’s only reigning champion and to ask him questions on his present, past and future. Accompanying Pirog were also his Russian promoter Kirill Pchelnikov (Pirog, a manager himself, is co-promoted by Pchelinkov’s PUSHKA Promotions, German Titov Boxing Promotions and Art Pellulo’s Banner Promotions) and his head coach Vyacheslav Nepogodin. Attending the presser were a number of well-known Russian boxing personalities, including Vladimir Hryunov and PBFR’s officials. Here is a full transcript of the presser, which is slightly edited to group resembling questions into the same group.

some things i gleaned from the interview:
        • jacobs fights like an amateur, not a pro, and doesn't hit that hard
        • pirog noticed b-hop shouting to jacobs from ringside, telling jacobs to keep his distance from pirog
        • oscar, shane, haye, and jacobs came to his locker room to congratulate him, but b-hop didn't
        • the wild card gym is an unsanitary dump
        • pirog thinks mayweather will beat pac unless pac lands a lucky punch, but doesn't think the fight will happen

Pirog is a smart guy! It seems he knows pretty much about boxing, even though i disagree that Mayweather beats Pac. But surely a close and difficult fight to predict.
It was interesting to read this conference.

I can't wait for his next fight as well. He is a class act and just want to fight, If HBO pushes Pirog/Pavlik if Pavlik loses he will be fighting on Showtime next or on somebodies undercard on of them Latin Furys lol

Thanks so much for that. Great read. Everything i'v read with Pirog makes me like him even more.

He seems dead serious about fighting the best, Martinez, PW, Pavlik now and guys like Golovkin, Korobov or any other of the future guys.

i could not agree more. His responses seemed thoughtful and circumspect. What is not to like?
