Honestly, I think Margarito is the victim of very bad legal advice. I have a hard time believing he offered a single response that wasn't prepared, and his lawyer came off as a jackass. He wasted nearly 20 minutes with an opening statement that tried to paint Margarito as an angel but in reality did nothing more than put his client in the jackpot.

From the moment his lawyer began talking, you could almost envision the board foaming at the mouth to grill Margarito. All the meeting had to be about was his applying for reinstatement. Instead, dude tried to go the dramatic route and make a name for himself, which wound up fanning the flames more so than drawing sympathy.

For what it's worth, I agreed with the Madame Chairperson. They were there to vote on the issue. Why take up an hour of everyone's time just to announce that they'd do nothing at all? I respect the fact that they didn't deny him outright, but damn - I didn't think anything that took place this morning would lead to their suddenly deciding he needed to first go to Cali.

The NSAC never shied from scaring away other applicants in the past, strongly suggesting they go elsewhere before coming into their house. The same could've been done here and simply saved everyone a world of trouble. They could've released a statement when Margarito tried and failed to secure a license in Texas.

Margarito deserves a shot at Pacquiao more than Cotto does. Either that or Cotto should have to be forced to fight Margarito again in order to earn a shot at Pacquiao.
